OT: honeymoon spots

  • Any ideas on honeymoon spots guys? Been searching and there are a lot of options. Ideas and input welcome.

  • Depends on your goal... Are you looking to get away to somewhere nice and quiet to spend time with the new wife or do you want to go somewhere with lots of things to do and see?

If you want something unique, try Guana Island in the BVI. Only 30 or so people can stay on the island at a time. We spent the week hanging out on the beach, hiking across the island (which is a giant nature preserve) or taking day trips to Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

Every room had an ocean view, and the food was amazing. My only warning is that you better like spending time with your fiancee. There was no TV or internet access (although that was a decade ago and might be different now).

Guana Island | Private Island Resort | British Virgin Islands | BVI

Information about Guana Island - an 850 acre private island resort with 7 beaches, accommodations for 36 guests, and a wildlife sanctuary with more flora and fauna than any island its size in the Caribbean. It is located north of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

  • I keep hearing that Clemson, SC is "God's country." It'd probably be a great place to get away from all that is reality.

  • Willing to spend around 8000, probably not anymore. Less would be good too. No thanks on Clemson live near there already and beating them could not be better my flag is flying right now.

  • The wife and I went to Italy for 10 days. Spent time in Rome mostly, but went to Florence too. Got it on Expedia for around 4k (including flight/hotel). Spent about 2k after getting there. I would go back again tomorrow.

My wife and I went to Cap Juluca on Anguilla a couple of years ago. It was very nice. They recently renovated most, if not all, of the villas. Some friends were down there during the renovation and toured one or two of the new villas. They reported back that the resort has done a very nice job. A friend of ours recently went down to Anguilla and stayed at a place called the Viceroy or something like that, which is also apparently very nice.

The places on Anguilla are ideal if you're looking for a nice beach with seclusion. You can take a direct flight from Charlotte to St. Maarten (maybe 3 hours?), and then catch the ferry to Anguilla. Most of the resorts are in low-season right now so there are good deals to be found.

I've also had my eye on a place in Antigua called Galley Bay. It's all-inclusive and adults only (or at least 16 and older), but it's more difficult to access.

  • SE Asia. Thailand or Vietnam. What you pay in airfare you will make up when you get there.

I think you can fit Guana well within your budget. During the summer, Guana's honeymoon package is $4,800. It was truly all-inclusive when we did it, but it looks like they have capped the amount of free booze (sorry for that). Any day trips you take are extra, but I seem to remember it not being too much to catch a ride off the island.

For the airfare, I picked random dates in July, and if you are enterprising you can get from Atlanta to Tortola* for $800 per head. I priced Airtran from ATL to San Juan, PR, then the puddle jumper from San Juan to Tortolla through Cape Air.

*The resort picks you up at the Tortolla airport for a short boat ride to Guana Island.

My wife and I just got back from Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica about a week ago. It was wonderful. It is an all inclusive resort built into the hillside but it is also on the ocean. It has places where you can be by yourself and places where you can interact with others. The only downside (not to us but to some) is the amount of steps on the resort as it is built into a hillside. This would fit well within your budget as you can do the all inclusive package for about $4,000 or so including your flight.

We talked to several couples who were staying at Sandals, etc when we went on one of the excursions and they seemed to be dissatisfied with their accommodations and stay but we never spoke to one person at our resort that was dissatisfied.

No matter where you choose relax, have a good time.

  • 8k? You can EASILY spend 7-10 days in Paris or Rome for that. Or you can go to a top of the line all-inclusive for 2 weeks if you want to.

couples swept away in Negril is superb. adults, couples only. smaller than sandals or beaches....not cheap but you could go 10-14 days for 8k.

  • Jade Mountain Resort.

    simms2000

  • San Francisco, Napa and Big Sur/Monterrey. I did this a few years back and had a blast but of course my wife let me play Pebble Beach while there as well as go to a Giants game. Look up Auberge Du Soleil in Napa and we stayed at the Lodge at Pebble Beach but had it not been for the golf, we would have stayed somewhere in Carmel or Big Sur. Take about 10 days and do 3 or 4 days in each place. You wont be disappointed!! Dont miss out on doing a hot air balloon ride in Napa. Unbelievable!
