OT:NC State at Duke

  • Did anyone just watch that game? How in the hell does a team (Duke) get into the bonus with 14 mins left in the game?? That is unreal. Three NC State players fouled out as well. I don't see how anyone can say that the name on the front of the jersey doesn't matter.

  • I hate Duke and UNC but were you around U SC when BJ was here? If you have a great player it is not hard to draw fouls. Both those teams have 5 BJs. No homo!

Dude I understand what you are saying to an extent but I'm not buying that. No team is fouling that much more than the other...and especially to get into the bonus with 14 mins left in the half.

  • BJ would drive the lane every posession and get fouled.

For a team to get into the bonus with 14 mins to go the officials have to be calling a lopsided game..simple as that.

  • NCST had 24 fouls and Duke had 21....NCST just had the same guys fouling...NCST was in the bonus with 12 to go in half I believe.

Actually they weren't...and if you listened to the game the announcers were even talking about it.

Actually watched the whole game. Not trying to get in an argument with you man but NCST was in the bonus with 14:53 to go in the 2nd half. Just went back and looked at the play by play.

I see your thought process on Duke/UNC getting calls but don't think it was too bad tonight. That's all. I mean final fouls was 24-21...

I'm not trying to argue. It just happens over and over again. I don't have a dog in the fight but I like watching basketball but get sick of seeing this happen when teams go to Chapel Hill, Durham, Lexington, etc

I see that but do you really think that happened tonight after looking at the box score/when teams got into the bonus?

It's an interesting debate since those teams have players who generally can drive and draw contact compared to teams who fade away/shy away from contact.

I watch all of those teams a lot and it happens a lot. Some of those fouls tonight were BS on NC State.

  • I just think officials should make up their mind how they are going to call a game and keep it consistent. Some of those fouls tonight when Duke drove to the basket were bs. NC State guys would have hands straight up and they would still call a foul because of what they thought was contact.

I'll agree with that. The refs were wildly inconsistent in the fact they would go a while with no calls and find a foul the next 10 possessions. Makes it hard to teams to adjust. I can think of numerous plays where players had their hand straight up and were called for a foul..One for Duke was Ryan Kelly facing the baseline under the backboard and was called for the hack. NCST had some as well.

All I'm saying is I don't think it was unfair tonight because of the refs. It was a good college basketball game.

If a mod wants to move this to the basketball forum then that is fine with me. I enjoy basketball talk and meant to put this in the correct forum.

  • Duke and Coach K always have and always will have the officials in their backpocket.

Also, when Duke got down 20, you knew the refs would get them back in the game with the ticky tack fouls.

Those teams you mention have one thing in common. They are good as hell and they put pressure on defenses.

I am not a fan of any. Despise them all actually. They probably do get some calls at home like most teams, but they force the calls because of how they attack.

By contrast, we go to the foul line very little because we don't attack.

If you can break folks down of the dribble and also feed the post consistently, you will get fouled more.

I saw a little of that game on ESPN3 and thought it was pretty well officiated.

  • They called the game way too tight on both sides, which happens too often in college basketball IMO. Let the kids play.

I'm not saying it hasn't happened in the past, but this game wasn't one where the refs favored either team.

  • Haha NC state was in the bonus before the first media time out of the second half! Duke only had 5 turnovers as well. If you can't make Duke turn the ball over, eventually they are going to get hot and capitalize on their good possessions.
