  • I'll allow the late entry up to this point, but have to protect the integrity of the contest and cut it off here.

With that said feel free to discuss, make side bets, pull against taters in the field etc.

Byrd eliminated himself by winning(tied) the par 3....

  • Euros come out strong, a Hanson resurfaces, a mechanic makes his presence known and managing mud balls were the order of the day Thursday at the Masters. Lee Westwood sets the pace at -5 followed by Oosthuizen and Hanson at -4. Bubba is right there firing 69 along with Z. Johnson and Furyk leading the American contingent with 70s respectively. McIlroy birdied the last two good enough for 71. Tiger bogied the last two, fought an erratic driver all day and managed 72. Lefty flirted with shooting himself out of it overcoming a triple on 10 to shoot 74.

Rain is forecasted Friday making it even more a bomber's paradise. Hopefully the committee "budges" with a much needed lift clean and place policy for the day.

  • Jason Dufner...

Maybe it's just me, but the guy reminds me of a young Raymond Floyd. Looks like him in the face, similar build, similar waggle, similar look in eye although Raymond's "stare" was so unique..

I saw Raymond close up when he was in one of his "zone" modes down in Hilton Head in the about 93 or 94 3 Tour challenge he shot like a 63 that day beat Norman, Azinger and Lee Janzen he was just staring at the next shot the whole round and never said a word.

Boom Boom is still the man!

I'm pullin for him as well. Hope he can last competitively for 72 holes. Freddie was in a similar position last year. A key will be his back and those 4 footers.

  • I want a Freddie / Phil last group on Sunday tied and Freddie with the win!

  • The cream is starting to rise to the top at the halfway mark with one major exception. 52 years young Freddie Couples continues his love affair with Augusta firing 67 and stands atop after two with Jason Dufner at -5. McIlroy, Bubba, Garcia and Westwood head a group at -4. Lefty shot himself right into the mix firing a 68 and stands three back. Tournament fave Tiger may have shot himself out of contention struggling to a 75 and stands eight adrift.

Merely a hunch, but have a feeling the committee sets up moving day for some serious fireworks...

  • I had the luck / timing to be sitting in the stands yesterday at Par three 16 when Freddie had birdies on 15 and 16 that got him to minus-five. Just an amazing moment with the reaction of the crowd included. Hoping Boom-Boom can hang on physically.. if he can I saw he has a great shot. With McIlroy's turn around from day one's round I still think he can take this one.

  • strange, strange start to moving day....more like moving back with Couples, Sergio and Rory who turned the front side in 42.

watch out Lefty who loves the back nine....

  • Moving day eventually proved to be just that with Hanson and Lefty making the biggest moves shooting 65 and 66 respectively. Lefty caught fire on the back scorching the National in 30 and stands one back of Hanson at -8. Oosthuizen and Bubba are right there as well at -7 and -6.

Saturday also had it's share of disappointments. McIlroy must have had flashbacks of last year's final round chopping up the front in 42 shooting himself out of it. Couples had an up and down day struggling with a 74.

Phil has to be the fave at this stage with his experience around here and hot putter this week. It remains to be seen, but I question if Hanson can handle the Sunday pressure at Augusta as he's never sniffed a major. Have a feeling a player of two from behind will make a run as well. Looking forward to more fireworks on Sunday!

    Leaderboard heading into Sunday....

I agree. I think the fact that Phil has been there before is a HUGE advantage over Hanson. Hanson's comments about probably not sleeping well tonight were telling to me. If Phil plays his A game, I'm confident he'll win. Of the guys behind, if I had to pick one to make a charge, it would be Mahan.
