Ok, I have to ask, a high 4 star, seriously

None of Williams' offers are commitable, and it's undecided if he has a commitable offer from us. I go by the star system, but not if I can look at a players film and see he isn't all that great.

Just funny to see you use the star system to justify your argument, then criticize it when it doesn't.

you really don't pay attention, but continue on.

We are about to pick up a SCISA basketball player soon, and will certainly offer another one shortly. Just sayin.

Let me guess you played SCISA? Basketball in private schools can be very good, but its five guys and one makes a huge difference football is completely different.

Guys, SCISA players love the game and play hard, and in that environment are very good, but we're discussing whether they are equal to kids playing at much higher levels and show out regularly. I just think this kid isn't a top five TE in the Nation, I do think he could be top 20 in the state, but I think there is a little cu pumping going on here.

    I did.

As Phathew pointed out, 2 recent SCISA players made the NFL. Kris Middleton was a SCISA kid just drafted to the NBA. Point is, while no, across the board, top to bottom, the league isn't 5A Georgia sports, but the cream at the top can be as good as any public school kid. And that's not me saying this kid is or is not. This thread is the first time I'd ever heard his name

Ugh. It will not be a good sign if we take the commitment. Woods is a different animal entirely, though. We should have offered two years ago.

  • I remember watching a certain high school player in a couple games his senior year. I knew the kid was supposed to be pretty good. (can't remember his STARS) but he was supposed to be div1 NCAA talent.

He was horrible in the games I watched. I remember thinking I hope he doesn't choose USC, as it was one of his offers as well. This receiver was slow, couldn't block, and didnt look like he knew what he was supposed to be doing.

But Tori Gurley turned out to be a decent receiver anyway.

Glad I don't have to evaluate these kids....

I don't think he's a high four star, but don't think he's "solid" as you said. I think he's actually a good player, but no where near the ranking 247 has given him. If you told me he was a 90, I'd say that's probably right, and maybe a tad high. But just like the kid yesterday, the ranking may not reflect the reality. What I hate to see is someone say a kid with big time offer and a ranking that high isn't a good player, which I read your post as saying. Just like Smith, he is a good player, but just not a top 5 TE.

Why do you care so much? Is it Clemson?

For a parent to spend 15k to send their kid to HS....you sure don't seem overly positive on the athletics. Thread just comes across as personal. I wouldn't say that if you sent your kids to Chapin, or Flora, or Dreher or wherever...and you had the opinion that there is no way a Scisa kid could be top 5 at his position in the nation...

The kid is a Clemson legacy....he was getting an offer no matter what so I could care less where he's ranked. His video was much better than I thought it was going to be though. I don't even watch the other kids...I wanna see how many steps it takes him to get 5 or 10 yards. How many total strides. Does he catch ball with hands and at highest point? Does he look fluid? Does he play hard?

I went to Gilbert-Saluda last night....and I think Hammond would play with Saluda and beat Gilbert. Saluda has a 3 man front that is close to 900 pounds. A couple kids getting looked at by BCS schools....the Wideman kid. I think EK would carve them up, and I don't think Saluda would be blowing Hammond off the ball.

Guess I was just in the mood for a debate or argument yesterday. I pay for the education and because my wife wants my kids at Hammond and Heathwood. Personally I think public school HS is better for athletes and all these years of watching SCISA, knowing the coaches and talking about developing kids has formed my opininion.

I realize there are a lot of former SCISA players who take offense to be regarded as lesser, but if they really think that the team CN or PG puts on the field year in year out is equal to playing public school team every week, then that's ok.

Do you remember who was on Calhoun County in 2010, they would have killed Hammond, you can't teach size and speed, and compared to CC that year Hammond was slow and light.
