Orth at home at Carolina

The process didn’t go exactly as 2012 recruit Perry Orth had planned but he ended up exactly where he wanted to play his college football.

  • That is an awesome article, JW. Sounds like a great young man who is excited to get the opportunity. It's hard for a walk-on, to say the least, but he seems to have the right attitude. Thanks for the article.

    Welcome, Perry!

I just watched his film, and he has an SEC arm. Arm strength will not hold him back.

  • He sounds like a great get and an organizational/team guy...He has shown he will put in work, and the GA/Spurrier team have shown they can coach kids up, so who knows...

We are beginning a rich pipeline in our backfield with very quality QBs and RBs, excited to see a Spurrier offense finally run, just if we can get that continuity on the OL...depth and experience is finally starting to show...

Like we said the other night in the VIP Room, it's hard for any walk-on to make a big impact on a program of this caliber but it can be done. I'm not predicting the future on him but from talking to him a couple of times last week, he's got the right mindset and the right team-first attitude to contribute something to the football team. He'll be on the scout squad for a while and we won't hear his name very often but, like he told me, Steve Spurrier gives all his quarterbacks chances. That's all he wants.

If he can have the impact that Seth Strickland had then he will be valuable to the Gamecocks and a success in his own right.

I hope he makes it big-time one way or the other.

  • Hey wow, I actually like his 2011 highlights. He can sling it around pretty well.

  • I applaud the kid for putting in the time and hard work to change his body like he did. It begs the question though - since he's going to be buried on the depth chart at USC, I wonder if he's going to be happy as a scout team guy at Carolina when he could likely use his new size and speed to play a lot at a smaller program. I hope he is happy and does well, but if he sees the field, it means we have serious QB problems with the scholarship guys ahead of him.

  • I have a cousin who was a very good corner for Summerville highschool. During the playoffs played Sidney Rice and shut him down for the most part. Anyways his dream school was Carolina also. He had offers from other schools small ones like Georgia Southern. He trIed to walk on also. Long story short he did not make the team. He ended up playing Rugby and pole vaulted for us I always pull for kids like this if he doesn't make it there will be other ways he may be able to help himself while at USC. Good luck to him.
