Our consecutive streak will end this year...

  • (No not that streak as we will beat Clemson) but of 4 straight Mr. Football's in SC. Terry probably wins, but I hope Booker pulls it out. At least it won't potentially be a tater or Bulldog. Fortunately for us is that he's probably going to be the least talented of the prior 4 as it is a down year in SC. The 5 finalist are (cut & paste) SIAP:

T.L. Hanna linebacker Ben Boulware is one of five finalists for the 2012 South Carolina Mr. Football award. The other four finalists are Byrnes wide receiver Akia Booker, Strom Thurmond running back Darius Hammond, Goose Creek athlete Tramel Terry and Conway athlete Mykal Moody.

The winner will be announced Dec. 7 during the week of the SCADA North-South All-star game at Myrtle Beach High School.

Boulware (6-1, 225 pounds), a Shrine Bowler and Clemson commit, is a four-year starter who has amassed over 500 tackles for his career and led Hanna to a 5-5 record this season.

Lexington's Shaq Roland won the award last year and was the fourth straight winner to sign with the University of South Carolina.

  • You know it's a down year when Boulware is a finalist. I just don't see it.

  • I have seen the kid play and to me he looked very good and legit FWIW

  • Boulware is good. He's going to play baseball also, I think.

Terry is not having the kind of year everyone expected. Booker had that performance on TV. Who knows?

Boulware is not a high level D1 prospect and he's not worthy of being a finalist for Mr. Football! IMHO, you should be the best at your position in the state and he can't carry Davon Durant from Greenwood's jock as far as linebackers go. Davon, like Akia Booker from Byrnes, will have to go JUCO route so they are not rated as high. I don't care what route you are going, if you are better than someone you should be rated higher. Don't know if they have film on here or the TOS but go look at 36 from Gwood play and go look at 7 from TLH play and you will see what I'm talking about!

  • I want to personally thank Mykal Moody, Chuck Jordan, and all the Conway Tigers for the epic choke loss to 1-9 Carolina Forest that game my Florence Knights their second straight Region VI-AAAA title. How do you lose that game with a region championship on the line? All kidding aside, Moody is a great player. I don't know about POY though. That might be a stretch. What a down year in SC.

My Conway Tigers certainly gift wrapped that Region Title for you. Moody is hurt, and Smith, the backup, broke his collarbone against Sumter so we were playing behind Sawyer Jordan, senior flanker who was the emergency QB. Still no excuse for losing that game but the O was not firing on all cylinders for sure.

Is that Chuck's son? Didn't he have a son at QB on the infamous boycott team back in '88 or '89? If so, major props to him for long term virility.

  • There's a reason why Boulware has over 500 tackles for his career and its not because he's all that great. It's because his team sucks and their defense is always on the field.

Yes, Sawyer is his youngest. But that was not his son that was involved in the boycott.

The quarterback was the son of the basketball coach who also served as the JV football coach. That player is now the Head Coach at Myrtle Beach High and is a great person. That was a very sad time in our community.

Thanks. I knew it was a coach's son, but I couldn't remember whose it was. I was in high school at West Florence back then and I remember thinking how much of a shame it was that adults would destroy so many kids final year in high school just to make a political point. Very few coaches would be able to keep their job through a controversy like that today. Political correctness is just too powerful now.

  • Akia Booker is the best player on that list imo.
