Our recruiting message needs to change...

  • What we are starting to see is the tough part of not being a "sexy" team but having lots of talent. We have sold top level kids on the ability to come in and have a realistic opportunity to play early and be a part of things that haven't been accomplished before at South Carolina.

Well now we are starting to accomplish those "firsts" and there isn't room for a lot of kids to play right away. I don't know what the staffs plan is to tweak our message but it is something that has to happen.

We will be fine. This is a solid class and if we can somehow add Mike Davis, Q. Davis and Moody I will be pleased.

We haven't accomplished "all" those firsts. And besides, I am sure that "first" is not our only line.

If we get both Davis', we will have a top 12-15 class. Seems our message is working just fine.

Many said yes. Two, that were more highly sought after than those that didn't commit today, said yes. Our recruiting message seems to be resonating really well!

  • Obviously our message IS working, as I said we have a solid class, but if you think we can continue to recruit on accomplishing "firsts" and playing time your just not thinking forward.

Imn2413, Never said we have accomplished them all, I said we are starting to, and unless you are presuming we are not going to complete ALL of the firsts anytime soon, they need to sell them on something different.

Obviously I'm not part of the staff and I have no idea what they are "selling" them on I just know thats what Spurrier always references when talking about recruiting.

I think we have great reciters, just making an observation

Top 15 based on number of recruits and individual rankings. A team could sign 25 players and all be offensive players with none being on D and have a top ten class. But that would be a horrendous recruiting haul. I could care less about being a top ten or fifteen class if said team does not meet its needs. It is my belief S. Carolina will not meet its needs in this class and that is a concern.

  • 12-15 is pretty average in the SEC and shouldnt be acceptable. Some of you are just okay having the 5tb or 6th rated class in the SEC. The OP meant to say that the Coordinator must be looked at as 1 oh the problems.

  • I don't know that any of us can really dissect our recruiting message in this thread. I'm disappointed about Shumate and McCord, but this is a good class. It will be important to follow it up with an excellent class next season that include talent and depth at DL.

Why. He hauled in as good of a class as any other coordinator we've had.

Havin a down year in-state and pulling out a top 15 class will be a success. That doesn't happen at SC. The fact that it has IS a sign of progress. It means we ARE GETTING BETTER bringing folks in. To spin it any other way is wrong, IMO.

This is the best response I've read so far tonight. The state of SC is not filled with a ton of talent this year. Shaq Roland will be a stud, Q. Davis, K. Smith could be really good. But other then that...slim pickings (ask Clemson if they're excited about their o-line prospects now after the all star games).

NOW, what we have done this year is locked down the BEST player in the state (roland) and locked down guys from inside the state of GA that UGA very much wanted (Elder, Harris, hopefully Mike Davis for example) not to mention we've gotten some absolute studs from North Carolina (Stadnik, Fuller) and Florida (Waldrup).

AND I would rather have a top 12-15 recruiting class with Spurrier as our coach, then a top 5 class with Dabo as the coach.

^This^... I am kind of laughing at the all the recruiting experts on here. A lot of the best players on average the last few years have been the result of excellent recruiting evaluations by the coaching staff. Particularly at the camps in the off season. The OL is the exception from the Hunt debacle. The staff has done an excellent job of mixing in high school All-Americans and developing the talent evenly to a very high level. I expect no difference from this class either.
