Panther fans..

  • Ingram at #9 and Jeffery at #40? explode

  • I would be thrilled, but i think Ingram would be better off playing in a 3-4 scheme. I want him to go somewhere he can explode on the scene. I'm not sure he can do that in the Panthers scheme. Gilmore is a possibility.

I also think he is better suited for a 3-4, but he could help out everywhere. Our LBs have been in terrible health lately and he could provide some much needed depth there on key situations. Also could rush the end and even play middle line on passing situations. DE's Hardy and Applewhite are inconsistent, I think Melvin could play that spot opposite Charles Johnson.

  • Both will be gone by the time the Panthers pick at those spots. Barring a trade, they won't be available.

I've seen a good many mocks that have Jeffery going after 40. Ingram's position has been fluctuating as well. This is the first draft I can remember in a while where there are tons of different scenarios.

  • I may be the only one, but I think Gilmore would be a great pick at 9. Our DL is below average, but somewhat servicable. Our DBs are just down right awful. We have so many problems on D though that anything should help.

Gilmore would definitely be a better fit for the Panthers than Ingram, even if MI6 IS available. There is ongoing talk that the Jaguars might move down. If they need a defensive lineman, they can get a good one further down. The only question is, is there any player that another team really loves to want to move up? Tonight and tomorrow will be very interesting. In this day and time, the communication age, it seems awfully quiet on the trade front....

  • what about Alshon to the Giants at number 32? They just lost Manningham but I believe they need a RB too. What they do at 32 is anybody's guess.

I love Gilmore, but in no way shape or form is he a top 10 pick. Cox, Keuchly, and Ingram would go before that. The only talk I've heard here in Charlotte on Gilmore is if the Panthers decide to trade down. Good chance Jenkins will still be available in the second round...that would be our corner.

I'm not a huge fan of taking Keuchly. I don't know why but with a below average DL and a bad secondary, it seems there is not much room for a good LB to make plays. I would be ok with Cox, but we already took 2 DTs last year and Ron Edwards supposedly is coming back. I'm not saying these guys are pro-bowlers, but we can't load up on the DL and keep the DBs we have.

I agree..do not want Keuchly. While we did draft those DTs last year, neither one impressed me or the front office. If Blackmon somehow falls to us we're taking him. We would then probably go after Jenkins in the 2nd and sign a DT free agent or take one late. We dont have a 3rd round pick unfortunately.

  • Joe Pearson was on 107.5 yesterday and said he thinks its Coples. Glad im not a Panthers fan bc he sucks. Its the Tarzan vs Jane theory.

That is one name I have not even heard mentioned. And I've read tons of mocks, articles, and have been listening to Charlotte radio. Coples is not a top 10 pick IMO. I would be absolutely furious.

  • There is an article in the Charlotte Observer today with a draft analyst saying Coples is not top 10. That article is saying the Panthers should take Cox or Gilmore. If Blackmon is available, then you take him, but Blackmon will be gone by 9.

I'm not trying to be a homer here, but I think Gilmore is the move here. Cox is solid, but I think our DBs need more work than our DL.

After the second pick there will be so many scenarios you never know what will happen. Blackmon could fall to us..or maybe even Claiborne. Panthers front office is pretty terrible, so you never know what they're thinking.

  • The coples thing has me worried. I read an article today about the coaches meeting with him the last few days and them hitting it off.

Yeah, I'm pretty confident that Hurney and Al Davis share some DNA strands.

Because he's local. If they flied him in then I would worried. Guy has a terrible motor and takes plays off. DO NOT WANT.

I could see that but they didn't meet with Gilmore or Ingram and they're local too. If im a Panthers fan I hope someone like Dallas falls in love with Barron and want to jump in front of Buffalo. Pick up a third or maybe a second if you give a later pick also.

Pretty sure they've met with Gilmore. Havent heard about Ingram, probably because they're set on Cox if the go with a defender who isnt a corner. They could probably get another second round pick if they trade back.

Better watch out for Luke Kuechly. He will be a solid pro. Very safe pick. I wouldn't want him but I won't be shocked if they do,that.

One of the leaders on defense is John Beason. Drafting a player in the top 10 who plays his position is not a wise move. I dont care if he has been injured of late, his rehab is going great. Moves like that can upset a locker room.

Oh I agree don't get me wrong but his name is popping up in Charlotte.
Dream scenario is Claiborne falling to 9. Not happening. After that I'm hoping for Fletcher Cox or Melvin Ingram in that order. If neither of those Are options I'd hope they could trade down but I wonder if thats possible. I like Gilmore a ton but if I'm being honest, top 10 is a stretch. I'd try to move back and get Dre Kirkpatrick or Brockers.
2 guys I wouldn't go within 100 miles of are Poe from Memphis and Coples. Even UNC fans nicknamed him Quittin' Coples for his lack of effort. Too much risk there and Poe has Mike Mamula written all over him. Simply put: if a guy that big, that strong and that fast can't make plays against Rice I don't want him.

  • I was at a small, informal gathering a month or so ago where Jerry Richardson spoke for a little while. He said the Panthers were going to be looking for a pass rusher, a cornerback, and a special team return man in the draft. He named a couple of other positions, but I can't remember what they were.
