Prayers Needed!!

  • I need all the prayers from my fellow Gamecock Nation. My father(69) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 4 months ago and it went from him being a do it all, out and about, independant, working still to in 4 months time...now he can't drive and has good days and bad days were he needs help with almost everything. My mom(67) is the rock. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. She and I with my wife take care of him.
Well, now comes where I need the prayers.....my mom had a hernia in her stomach and they needed to operate this past Thursday. She had the surgery and everything looked great.Doctor said she'd be home by Sunday.Friday, she was in ICU with collapsed lungs.Bad day after bad day of not getting oxygen into her lungs and tonight they put her on life support.Needless to say, we were stunned. My dad is confused and can't understand why she isn't coming home with him.She has been given a 30% to 50% chance of surviving.
Please, say a prayer tonight or when you can for the sweetest mother, grandmother and wife that I have ever known....my mother....Sandy Craft.
Thank you friends.Even though I have never met any of you, some I feel I have known from reading these boards over the last several months. Thanks again and God bless.

To my fellow Gamecock, I'm praying for your mother Sandy. She's in the Lord's hands. It's His decision. My father was born in 1917. My mother 1920. My father passed away in 2002. I'm the youngest of eight children. Never found a woman that would put up with me enough to marry me so I'm still single. Back in the early 1990's, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Things progressively got worse. My father was 6'3", about 240 lbs. My mother is, was, about 5' 1". She's about 4'6" now. God bless her soul. My parents were living in Surfside Beach, me up in Myrtle. I was living with my girlfriend at the time. Mother called me and told me she couldn't take care of dad by herself anymore. It was a no brainer. I talk to my girl and told her what I had to do. I moved home to help my mother take care of dad. I gave up my career and what seemed like my future to do this. I cared for my father for over six years and now I'm still here taking care of my mother. She's now 91 yrs. old. Her memory is fading but she still does the crossword puzzle and jumble in the newspaper everyday. Hopefully she will be with us a few more years. I know I will do all I can for her. You must do the same for your parents. They brought you into this world. They nurtured and cared for you. They sacrificed for you. Now, it's your turn. Regardless of the inconvenience, you owe it to them. I promised my father before he passed that I would not put mother in a nursing home. I'm living up to that promise. It's such a blessing to be able to tell her how much I love her every day.
Take care of your father. Be patient. If you're not, learn how to be. It's not easy but you owe it to your parents.
I wish you the best my fellow Gamecock. Be strong and do what you have to. Send me a PM if you need to talk.

  • So sorry to hear about all of this with your Mom & Dad. I'm Praying for both now, especially for your Mom to make a full recovery. But like Surfside said, just be there for your parents & do whatever you can for them. Please keep us posted.

My mother just passed from this dreaded disease on 11/11 (right before Florida game for you posters with no life / brains / etc). It is rougher on the caregiver than the patient and I hope you find the strength to press on. Prayers for you mother and a speedy recovery.

Don't take anything for granted because one may be gone in a flash. Bless you!
