Pretend you are the South Carolina AD

  • Not pushing him out the door but if you HAVE to make a change in the Basketball coaching stafff be it this year or next How would you structure your Targets (you can fill in the blank if you wish) offer to give USC the best chance of getting a proven coach that is not ready to retire but say has over 10 years left in him?

Here are some of my ideas FWIW:

    Base Salary 1.5 Mill
For every win over breakeven 25k (Division 1 programs only no NAIA to pump up record)
For every 1k increase in attendance over previous Coaches average 50k
    Winning Conference Record 100k
    NIT Bid 10k
    NCAA Bid 250k
    Conference Championship 250k
    For every Tournament Win 100k
    Sweet 16 100k
    Final 4 250k
    NCAA Title 1 mil

If you are caught cheating remaining years are null and void no settlement

Some may think this is expensive but if you have increased attendance with the money from ticket sales, concessions, parking, etc and additional money from Tournament play I think he would pay for itself.

Or I may not be thinking high enough.

    What say you?

  • I sure wouldn't base it off of a miracle shot in the NCAA tournament

  • Slightly off topic but I would love to get Dino Gaudio to be our next coach.

I'd say we should steer clear of Wake Forest's leftovers in the next coaching search

  • I disagree on dino. He left wake forest in a huge mess.

  • I heard on the radio Horns buyout drops to 1.25 million in April. To get an experienced replacement we might have to pay a buyout on that end as well. I really just can't wait until this seasons over to see what happens. Either we improve or keep this up. If we keep this up Hyman will have to make a choice.

No Dino for me either and I really have my doubts if Hyman would go after Marshall. If he goes after him it magnifies his mistake a few years ago.

  • Call Cremins, then Marshall. Ego's have damaged our basketball program enough, time to admit mistakes were made and hire the best person available.

The base of 1.5 mill is still $400,000 more than Horn's screwing us out of currently. Stalling's reportedly, private institution, makes less than 1 mill and has done an admirable job at Vandy. Horn blows!!! If Cremins can win in Charleston and Mckillop at Elon, what's the freaking deal?

  • I would hire Gregg Marshall like we should have done in 2008.

  • We're not going to pay our basketball coach that kind of money. We're looking for a million dollar baby. Nothing more.

Marshall already makes close to $1 million at Wichita.

To me, the answer is obvious. Give Bobby Cremins the job and let him be the same transition coach for our basketball program that Lou Holtz was for our football program. Next hire: Mark Few, Mike Brey or Brad Stevens, But, we have to crawl first.

You know it, I know it, many on TBS including J.C. know it.

What are the odds our administration knows it?

Yep. If we can get Cremins to commit for say, 4 years, it would be a slam dunk hire. We probably wouldn't have to pay much for him either as I doubt money would be his motivation. He would heal a lot of old wounds and, you know, probably win a few games too.

If Hyman's not willing to pay Horn's buy-out, the new coach's buy-out and $1,500,000 - $2,000,000 a year for a new coach he should leave Horn where he is. I'm not in favor of getting rid of Horn and then hiring a new coach on the cheap.

So you would go with the unproven young coach who drove Wake Forest into the ground. Interesting. I think Gaudio would make a great lead assistant.
