Question about Alshon and NCAA.

So Alshon just made himself a pile of cash. His brother is coming here to play. Is Alshon allowed to buy his younger brother a car and other cool toys, or would this be some sort of NCAA violation? I ask because if I made millions, one of the first things I'd do is hook my younger brother up. It'd be really stupid if the school could get in trouble for that.

Agree, but common sense and NCAA doesnt mesh well does it? We will probably have to report ourselves when they catch Alshon buying ramen noodles for Shamier.

The NCAA has not suddenly gotten common sense. However,the precedent for brothers helping brothers has long been set at many schools.

Chris Smith, who was a Sr on the Louisville bball team this past year, is the brother of New York Knick JR Smith. He was a walk on player as JR paid his room and board to school.

If you have known a player a certain amount of time it doesn't matter . Someone around here knows the exact amount

I remember a player a few years ago who bought a bunch of stuff for his former teammates. That was no problem but the NCAA wouldn't let him donate to the University or get sideline passes because that would have made him a booster. Weird rules.

Mike Vick put him up in a badass pad where other players also stayed and partied. They also used it for recruiting purposes, it hurt them in the long run because of the gun charges, under age possession tickets , etc...that came from it.

As long as you go to clemson, you can do whatever you want, there are rules for all other schools.

Couple of things:
The rules about impermissible benefits apply to boosters.
The rules specifically exclude family members and legal guardians.
Otherwise, I believe the rules state that you can provide benefits if you have a relationship with the player that pre-dates his or her enrollment in high school. Might be 10th grade, though.

Family can give whatever they want. For instance, Brian Maddox's folks bought him a Benz with the money they saved for his college tuition. The deal was, get a scholarship and we'll buy you a car. Alshon can give $1,000,000 to Shamier and the NCAA can't do anything about it.
There is a rule though, that if you have known someone prior to the NCAA athletes 8th grade year, you have an existing relationship. If you have an existing relationship, gifts are not considered a violation. Now the rules may be tighter in this instance,and I do not know the, all. But as far as Shamier and Alshon go, there are no limits. I bet Shamier will have a sweet ride this fall, if not already/

You beat me to it. Stay a few nights at the Whitney & receive a bit of help & the NCAA is all over that. Receive cash, cars, and financial assistance for your family from Klempsin which are clearly major violations, but the NCAA chooses to close their eyes to this.
NCAA is about as ethical as the Mafia.

Think it applies to "representatives of the university's interest" which includes, but it isn't limited to do boosters.
