Question about Concussions

  • What is the typical time frame for a player to return from a Concussion? We have two that are potentially devastating. (Holloman and Shaw)

    Thanks.

  • That is a hard question to answer. But for a short response on a first concussion without a loss of consciousness.must be one week asymptomatic to be cleared.that is why it often comes down to game day decisions.
just fyi loss of consciousness changes the whole scenario.

Thank you for responding. Let's hope both of them are "ok" and will be back as soon as possible.

    Was either one knocked out?

Its hard to tell. If it was a fairly mild concussion then it is very possible for Shaw and Holloman to play against Florida. For example if they are symptom free today and continue to be so, then I think they are usually cleared to play. If symptoms linger until Tuesday or Wednesday, it becomes less likely.

I think one thing that plays in Shaws favor is that this is his first concussion (at least in his college career). If a player has had several in the past then it becomes trickier and the medical staff is less likely to give the player the benefit of the doubt.

I've had several of these throughout my playing days, and I can tell you they suck. Blinding headache, sensitivity to light and sound, tender to any contact with head-basically not a good recipe for playing QB in the SEC.
