Quote from Tater friend of mine

  • Quote from Tater friend of mine regarding Gamecock SEC championship loss vs. Clemson orange bowl loss.

"Not sure what the difference is between a 39 point SEC title game loss and a 37 point Orange Bowl loss...both big postseason games. What else is there to differentiate?"

    Wow.

  • We got embarrassed in the Georgia Dome, so he has somewhat of a point. However, the big differences are that we lost to the future National Champion who had the Heisman Trophy winner as their QB. Also, the Orange Bowl is a on a much larger national stage than the SEC Championship game. I digress, he doesn't have a point.

    Wow.

This is the thought process that had us as losers for so many years! Let them have it.

I disagree... the only way the Orange Bowl is a bigger game than the SEC Championship game is if the Orange Bowl is hosting the National Championship.

The SEC Championship game has been the second biggest game behind the Nat'l Chamionship game each of the past 6 seasons.

I do agree that you can't compare the 2010 Auburn team with the 2011 WVU team.

  • Not only were they national champions with a heisman QB. That heisman QB was the best player to come through college since I have been alive. He was unstoppable for college players.

If that Auburn team had played last yrs klimpson team in that bowl, Scam and co. would have put up 70 by halftime.

Also, its not the amount that they lost by, its the amount of points they gave up. 70 points is just, well, a record.

The BIG difference is WVU could have scored 100 easily had they not called the dogs off. Clemson looked like an over-matched powder puff team against WVU.

The SEC Championship was a much bigger game. As one sports writer commented regarding the Orange Bowl -- "The only sound you'll hear that night is the sound of TVs being cut off."

  • - The Auburn team we lost to was light years ahead of the WVU team they lost to.
    - That AU team was the national champion and had a dominant Heisman winner running the offense; the WVU team lost to Louisville and Syracuse that year.
    - WVU could have scored triple digits if they wanted to.
    - The points given up is the big problem in their game, not the margin of defeat. They gave up 70 points. 70. In a BCS Bowl.
    - WVU allowed 30+ppg to Big East teams. CU should have been able to score at will and didn't.

    LOTS to differentiate.

  • The difference is WVU was mediocre at best, from a worthless conference, and still managed to put 21 points on the tiggers with 3rd stringers in the 2nd half. Against a first team defense. I quit watching (like most of the country), but I'm guessing half of WVU's players didn't even have their names stitched onto their jerseys (like most scout team players). Auburn won a National Championship. The one point he has is that the SEC CG is a major stage, at least as big as the Orange Bowl. In fact, given the beatdown the ACC has taken in both 2011 (Stam vs VT 40-12) and 2012 (the tigger debocle) I'm suprised anyone even tunes into that worthless bowl at all. If you ask me, the Orange bowl took it on the chin for being associated with the ACC.

No way I could turn my TV off, I was thoroughly enjoying myself. I suspect the only TV's being turned off were those of clemson fans, everyone else was having loads of fun.
