Ranking the SEC's football facilities.....

  • Think we deserve to be #12 out of 14?? Wow, that seems a little low with all the improvements we've done.

Ranking the SEC's football facilities - SEC Blog - ESPN

In the realm of college football, there is no arms race quite like the facilities arms race in the SEC. Schools spend millions of dollars without bli

Did anyone else find that little nugget out of place? Those things are like $150 bucks a piece.

I just think it shows how far behind we were several years ago.

  • If Ole Miss and Mississippi State have better facilities than us, then something is/was seriously wrong. We're headed in the right direction, but we must have been 3 levels below hell itself for us to be putting so much into facilities and only show up at 12 out of 14 teams.

That's a kitchen TV by my standards.

  • I bet after completing the scoreboard, practice facility and area directly next to the stadium we'll shoot up this list. Is there anything being done about the coaches' offices though? I may have missed that..

Yes. We still have a ways to go.

  • This is just in reference to football only facilities, I guess. They are a little behind on coaches offices, even though still located at wb. I think we need final approval for indoor facility, as benefit for bad weather, but, for summer camps when its crazy hot, maybe attract more regional or national camps.

  • Reading the facility descriptions for each school and the recent money spent, it sounds like somewhere between 10th and 12th is accurate.

We still have a long way to go...

  • This portion below caught my attention - why in the hell would you put a MMA ring in? That is just asking for a huge backlash from your fanbase when one of your players gets hurt.

  • We were very far behind when all this started. The key for Hyman is to have an even bigger plan the next time around. The schools at the top of the chart always have major renovations / additions taking place and long term plans they are working on......

  • I would say this is accurate if you don't include our Academic Center. With that included I'd think we move up into the middle. Our practice facilities both outdoor and indoor are lacking and as many have stated the Floyd building is in adequate in today's world.

  • One thing that puts us behind the 8 ball to start with is a great deal of our facilities are OFF CAMPUS. Even as nice as they are the way people look at our facilities is wow but now lets drive 5-10 minutes and look at our other facilities. These other schools have facilities that are within easy walking distance and on campus....JMHO

  • Am I the only one who thinks all this is kinda dumb? I'm quite sure alot of the administrators think so...probably the coaches too. If I was a head coach I wouldn't want any tvs in the locker room. Fine to have them in a players lounge or whatever but in the locker room? I can see both sides I guess. This is big business and these kids bring the money in so in some ways they deserve to be treated like this. But on the other hand, I mean damn, what's next? A martial arts fighting cage? Seriously? Each player gets to keep one dancing girl in his locker at all times? Individual hot tubs for each player? A round the clock Chinese lady at each locker for pedicures? It's just a constant "hey 18 year old! look what we have!" No wonder alot of these kids have trouble in the real world later if they don't go pro.

In high school we would wrestle as part of summer training. It was really intense and separated the men from the boys. Plus, MMA training is probably the toughest way to train; just another cross-training technique I'm sure.

  • What I find odd is that a lot of the recent Recruits say how nice our facilities are and some of the best they have seen?

I don't think that was taken into account. We are still very far behind. I'm ready to pull out the wallet.

  • If you read the summary though it references the indoor facility and the coaches offices...both which are part of the 45 million dollar expansion thats taking place right now. This had to be determined by the current state of the facilites as Bama and LSU are no surprise but with the beautifucation around the stadium, new famrers market, new offices etc....we'll jump to top 6 quick.. Also rememember that the SEC, much like with everything in football, sets the bar across the country for the most part. if we're #7 in the SEC, post expansion, realistically we sit top 20 in the nation. Just food for thought!

It shows that the game is not static...we have to gain ground on programs that were way ahead of us already and are still advancing the facilities race.

I agree. We did the same thing but knowing the competitive side of athletes, it could quickly turn into a real knock down dragout fight. I understand the MMA training but I don't think you need an MMA cage to do that.

Yes. The long-time season ticket holders who got so angry about Eric Hyman putting in seat fees and charging for parking (and many of whom have never forgiven him) have no clue. They expect an SEC-quality program at Conference USA prices.
