With the KC Crosby thread and his uncle is a fan of and so on. I thought I would share you with the biggest recruiting myths out there. 1. Recruits are fans of a school. Less than 5% are actually fans of a particular school in the way that most of us think fans are. When recruits say they grew up rooting for a school, it most assuredly means they played that team on Play station. Facts are most recruits don't have the cash to attend games until they are a recruit and the last thing many want to do on a Saturday is get up early and travel to a game after playing on Friday. Dont take this the wrong way, but how many young African American kids do you see at games in the Brice? Very few and our team is mostly comprised of black men! 2. Team apparel matters. Yeah kids like Under Armor, Nike, etc, but they don't care as long as it looks cool and what looks good to us is not what attracts a 17 year old male. Those god awful Maryland uniforms are right up the alley of many youngsters today. The brighter and more colorful the better for most teams because much like politics it is the more you are seen that helps not the actual message you convey. 3. High school coaches don't push players to schools- some agree with this and some don't. Facts are that any high school coach is looking for a bigger and better deal , if they are not then they should be fired. Yes coaches are going to get their players to schools and yes they are going to work on getting them offers. Seriously do you think it is a coincidence that Dabos high school coaching friends come to the Clemson team camp? Some coaches are so good they can get guys offers that have no business being division 1 recruits. Position coaches in high school are very skilled at this and want their guys to get the best offers, they then use that to secure better jobs. 4. Academics are the most important thing- the company line, but for most winning, tradition, bowls, tv, campus life, coaches, location, and the ability to get to the nfl are the keys. Yes their are some that actually care about academics but for most that is window dressing to smooth over parents. Why do you think schools have "football majors",you know the classes I am talking about. Most elite players arent in Pre-med, or business. Kudos to Marcus Lattimore for being in Public Health by the way. 5.Lying to recruits will catch up to a coach- dealing with 17-18 years old is easy just tell em what they want to hear and tell their parents what they want to hear. Facts are teens believe almost anything and lying will always work especially if you convince mom that you aren't lying. Also many recruits aren't educated in the ways recruiting works and have poor mentors that don't tell them to look at the facts.
