Great stuff Justin, but this was my favorite quote:

Yolanda: “Both medically and mentally he is 100%”

  • We might find another RB as talented as this kid but we will be hard pressed to find another human being as special as Marcus Lattimore.

  • Great Article!

  • Great article. It amazes me he didn't need pain meds. I had acl reconstruction surgery this week and could not imagine not having the meds. He's a great gamecock with a great attitude about life!

  • Justin, these articles you write are beyond incredible! I have trouble finding words for how good you are at putting stuff like this together. You have a gift for shining a light on the personal and emotional side of sports. Gamecocks everywhere are fortunate to have you putting your talents towards enlightening the good guys.

As for Marcus: True character is defined by what you do when no one is looking. Marcus has character in dump truck loads. Marcus is at least as good of a person as Tebow, but ESPN does not follow him around while he does what he does, and I am sure he wants it that way.

Not to pile on Sammy Watkins, but this is why it is such an absolute horror that abo and their fans compare Sammy "The Slammer" Potkins to Marcus Marcus pees out more character than anyone at klimpson will ever have.

  • This kid is almost too good to be true. And his mother should be hired as recruiting coordinator. Dabo likes to tout the "family atmosphere" in Taterville. It's all for show. It's all a recruting pitch. Our guys don't talk about it. They show it in the way they go about their business and the way they support one another. And it all starts with #21. Tweet that.

  • As a fanbase, we are beyond lucky to have this guy on our team. People like ML are rare in both on-field talent and as a human being. What a great article.

  • Man does he deserve a Heisman or what? Time to make 2012 a special year. can't wait to see the #21 in a couple of years retired after he brings home the hardware and a bit of crystal!

The real USC is the one that didn't finish in the top 25. The real Carolina is Academic Fraud U. South Carolina back to back Top 10. Got it.

  • Mrs. Smith struck me as the type of mom that would have been immediately on the field when he went down

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.

No. It's Adrian Despres, team chaplin. AWESOME dude!

  • Love this quote:

Vernon: “Yeah, I was home by myself for about a month! I remember one day Marcus called me and said “man…Vern…you’ve gotta tell mom to come home!” He and I had to coordinate it to tell her to go home at the same time so she would!”

  • What a fighter, a great example of how a young man should lead his life both on and off of the field

  • My sister saw Lattimore in downtown Columbia earlier this week on Tuesday or Wednesday when it was raining pretty good. She stopped and asked him if he was Lattimore and he said yes ma'am. She talked to him a little about some of our family that used to play at USC and how her young daughters were fans of his and then the rain started to pour down on them. My sister said well I will let you go so we dont get soaking wet out here in the rain and he started laughing and said "ma'am I would stand in the rain all day and talk to fans."......This truely is what seperates this guy from everyone else, and this team. This team has adopted his attitude and it sounds like Dylan Thompson is a large part of this team attitude as well. He might not ever be a starter but he sounds like a guy that keeps the "team atmosphere" going all the time.

  • Bless you Marcus!

I really don't know what else to say. Thank you!

    Great story .

I think Thompson has vastly improved . He will get some snaps this year . He is a hard worker and great kid too. Is he a star ? Doubtful ( you never know) but as big a part of this team as any other player

Connor Shaw is another one that is a fantastic person outside of football. Him, Dylan, Marcus, DJ, Devonte, Melvin, Travian, TC and Alshon all definitely changed the expectations on how a USC football player acts off the field

Ace sanders does not get a whole lot of credit for it, but he is becoming a leader, and is as nice, humble, and respectful of a young man as you could ever expect. Him and Devin Taylor are so nice, you would not expect them to be such fierce football players.

DJ, Connor, and Marcus have brought the intensity to a whole new level in the weight rooms. Akeem also. DJ and Akeem keep practice intense, to say the least.

  • I've said it before but it bears repeating; Marcus Lattimore comes from an incredible family. They are among the most supportive, kindest people I have ever had the fortune of speaking to.

Here is a good example; they are the ones that run the "Gamecock Family" Facebook page where all parents who have a child playing at Carolina can go to meet others and network. They put their time and effort into that simply because it helps others. The list goes on.
