Roth vs. Randall

  • The Commentators somewhat gave Roth his due but could not stop raving about Randall. Randall is an excellent pitcher and struck out a bunch of us tonight(what's new) but Roth as usual was statistically better(and what's new about that)

I agree, its like all these people that play us (i.e. the bauer kid from ucla) get reach arounds from the commentators yet roth has won 2 rings and been basically untouchable for two years, including Omaha. Its ridiculous...the kid is a winner, which is what the idiot commentator fools need to focus on, not how fast kids can throw and where they will be projected in the draft....

It never changes. They drooled all over UCLA's staff two years ago and did the same thing with UF last year in the CWS.

  • I Think it just comes down to us not being a flashy team. Our coaches and players don't make asses of themselves and aren't very controversial, which is all the media wants.

Or it could just be because the commentators are all about pitch speed rather than placement. A K is a K no matter how you get it.

I'm pretty sure it's one of those.

I agree...BUT Roth got the TV time with the interview following the game!

All they care about is how the guy projects and unfortunately Roth only projects (not my opinion) as a reliever at the next level. I think it is rediculous he doesn't get more credit because he is a stud, but that is just how it is.

  • Roth is the best Friday night starter in college baseball and he has the hardware to back it up.

  • At least he doesn't double set and have two leg kicks... LOL what a tool.

  • Roth is a great college pitcher as is Randall. Hudson is also a good kid and he will be in a pro rotation in 3 years.

    Commentators drooled, but Carolina ruled.

  • NOt sure who the little weezel was beside Big Ben in the studio but he knew about as much about baseball as my 9 year old. I particularly loved how he broke down Roth against Florida prior to the game and said it would be difficult for him to have success with their loaded lineup due to him not having a dominant out pitch like a 90+ fastball. I guess he forgot Roth beat them last year I believe twice with the same lineup.

I really like Ben MacDonald - he knows his shizzit and always gives good commentary. He also has to spend time correcting Napoleon next to him.

  • yeah, Roth can't touch 90MPH but neither could Greg Maddox or Tom Glavine. If you have at least three pitches, can change speeds, and locate, I don't give a darn how fast you can throw. Speaking of changing speeds, Tim Wakefield has had NO PROBLEM making a career out of maxing out at 80 on the gun.

Point is Roth is the better College pitcher, period. Whether either has more pro potential is not material.

As did Price ... probably the best starter & closer combo in all of D1 baseball

Did you notice two may three times they replayed the highlights of the SC - Fla series from last year's CWS - the look on Randall's face when Wingo threw out the runner at the plate which started the 4-2-3 double play was priceless.

Tim Wakefield is, or was rather, a knuckleballer. I fail to see the similarity between he and Roth. Glavine and Mad Dog I get though.

The reason I threw Wakefield in there is because he PROVES how hard one throws does not matter. It's all about movement, changing speeds, and location. Not every pitcher can do all three but the very good ones can. The further MR gets into his college career and the more I hear "scouts" talk about him the more I am reminded of Kip Bouknight. Much like Kip, Micahel Roth KNOWS how to get people out and has done it at EVERY LEVEL HE HAS PLAYED, THAT is all that matters. Michael Roth is definitely pro material!!! Unfortunately, KB didn't have much of a chance at the professional level, I hope MR fairs differently.

Here's the thing it's COLLEGE ball and Roth is the dominant pitcher in COLLEGE compared to Randall who is uber talented and can throw harder. IDGARA what the pros think about the guy at the next level. When you've been the FACE of the CWS billboards and have TWO rings that should at least get you equal billing in a COLLEGE game.
