SEC Disrespects Marshall Henderson...

  • Cockjudicata said...

What am I missing? Is this Marshall Henderson guy from Sc? Why the interest in whether an Ole Miss player makes all conference award squad?

Because he is the most polarizing player in the SEC since Demarcus Cousins; and the most polarizing player in college basketball since JJ Redick.

SEC basketball struggled for national attention this year without a great Kentucky team. Marshall Henderson single handily filled in the void.

People do talk about other topics other than Gamecock sports on this board.

and votes some guy from Alabama over him for 1st Team All SEC. I guess this is the league's way at getting back at him after showing up the Auburn fans and just about everyone else (except us). I am glad he called the other SEC coaches "losers" because that is what they are. However, at the end of the day it is totally unfair and frankly a travesty. Marshall Henderson single handily made SEC basketball relevant this year.

In life, sometimes being a douche is a hinderance, fair or not. The lesson for Marshall is, maybe you don't have to be a prick every second of your life but if you choose to be, don't get butthurt when things don't go your way because NOBODY is going to go out of their way to cut you any slack.
He can either take this life lesson and learn from it or he can bow his back, pop his jersey one more time and continue to give folks an excuse to pee on him whenever possible.

No, I am saying Cam made 1st team despite character issues but Marshall Henderson didn't make first team due to character issues. It is not fair.

Except Cam had no character issues.

How does leading in scoring make him a lock anyways? Has the NCAA scoring leader always made first team? How about SEC?

Did Cousins win any awards in the SEC? Was JJ Redick first team ACC?

You keep coming up with examples that do not help your argument.

So being arrested for stealing a laptop and then getting kicked out of Florida would not be considered a sign of a character issue? Or how about being involved in a major recruiting scandal that he got out of due to a technicality?

How about his attitude in the NFL? Read this article about his attitude at the Pro Bowl and then try to convince me that he doesn't have character issues.

I am not going to look up scoring leaders who have not made first team. That would take forever. But I would generally assume that the scoring leader for a league would make the first team, especially a league like the SEC that was lacking in talent this year.

Cam Newton’s attitude didn’t win him any friends at the Pro Bowl | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports

From the blog Shutdown Corner: Even before he became an NFL player in 2011, Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton seemed to rub a lot of people the wrong way. In many of his pre-draft scouting reports, Newton was taken to task for what some felt … Continue reading →

If you change one thing about Marshall Henderson, he would instantly go from one of the most popular (though controversial) players in the SEC to one of the most vilified. Henderson actually deserves the criticism he gets and more, and it won't be the last time his histrionics and lack of character costs him in life.

I agree his lack of character will end up costing him but that should not reflect on his selection to the All-SEC team. As I said earlier, Cam Newton had horrible character issues and it did not affect his selection whatsoever.

It is not the SEC-All Character Team.

I agree. But character does affect how people vote, etc. So, right or wrong, Henderson hurt himself.

  • lol So voters should predict the future now? How does his character at the Pro Bowl affect anything? Or something he did two years before? Obviously no one thought it was an issue in 2010.

    lol

How about finding something form 2010. You know, something relevant.

He stole a computer two years prior and paid the price. What other character issues were there other than beating teams?

Cam Newton also committed academic fraud, and then there was the whole episode where his father tried to sell Cam's services and miraculously received a large amount of anonymous funds to fix up his church. Of course, Cam knew nothing about anything, consistent with his need to commit academic fraud, even though it was his services and college choice that were up for bid by his dad. I'm sure that Cam always drove a beat up clunker of a car while in college.

No, I was just using that as an example of his poor character that was also evident in 2010. See swimcock's post above.

At UF, Cam turned in a paper he bought online, and the Prof busted him. The Prof told him to go home, write the paper himself, turn it in the next day, and all would be forgiven. Cam asks around and buys a paper from a student, and turns that in. Too bad it was a paper the Prof had seen before, and he got busted again. He high tailed it to Juco before he had to go before the student disc. board. He stole a laptop at his first Juco, then went to another. Then, his father shopped him around, and got a huge donation for his "church".
