SIAP - 4 team playoff a done deal!

  • Loved this comment from Rick Reilley:
So if the top-ranked team is from the Big 12, the Fiesta Bowl will hold one. If the top-ranked team is from the SEC, the Sugar Bowl will get one. If the ACC is No. 1, then the ... nah, just kidding.

Of course, that idea is completely moronic.

No, it's a very good idea. What's wrong with #1 South Carolina hosting #4 Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl, and #2 Southern California and #3 Alabama facing off in the Rose Bowl?

Because then (just like this past year) it would be an all SEC final where the winners in those 2 games play eachother and the cry babies would try to change the system again.

  • Honestly I think this is a pretty wimpy excuse for a playoff. 4 teams?? Come on. They just did this to try to shut people up. At least give us an 8 team playoff.

  • I love this set up. There was definately a push to have conf. champs represented....Slive held his ground.

I want whatever is best for the SEC. IMO keeping the field smaller is best for us....and to be honest the current system was fine. I am also happy it will be played at neutral sites.

If the Big 10 had won 6 NC in a row...you would not be hearing about playoff. IMO it was an agenda pushed by Big 10 water toters...that want to level the playing field. It got absolutely no traction until it became evident that SEC was here to stay.

Kudos to Slive for knowing his hand and playing it well. He was willing to change...but change that would probably more times than not...benefit the SEC.

Baby steps. They've been saying for a while that 4 will lead to 8 to possibly 16. Much like bball has done. It's better than nothing.

  • Stupid to go any further than 4. First, no one outside of the top 4 has earned the right to a national title. Second, you'll end up having rematches, probably several. Third, there aren't 300+ div 1 football teams like baseball and basketball. Fourth, it makes the season too long. Fifth, it really begins to screw with the bowl system. Sixth, people cant afford to travel to 3 bowl games to follow their team. Lastly, the final 4 would be at least 50% SEC, if not 3/4.
