SOS had great comments in Greenville News

  • There is a word for any one who has not made a mistake or done something stupid while intoxicated or drinking. Oh hell what is it....? oh yea LIAR. doesn't make you a bad person or an alcoholic doesn't mean you need to go to classes on alcoholism or substance abuse. people can blow shinola so out of proportion.

Hell he is human makes mistakes if he deals with it with a little dignity and doesn't make a habit of it. Its all good.

"One of my coaches made a bad decision, an embarrassing decision, and one that will probably follow him for a while as a football coach"

"Its one thing when you have something like this with a 25 year old or something like that but these are adults. My coaches are mostly over 40 years old. and something like this should not happen. It's an embarrassment for G.A. and it's certainly something that embarrasses the university and what we are trying to do here."

I am glad SOS recognizes that coaches should be held to a much higher standard. I personally don't see how you can keep him because he will be suspended for most of Fall camp, and he will have a hard time relating to his boss , his fellow coaches, his recruits and his players. Just MHO.

I think you have no clue. Fire a great Coach because he peed in public. If everyone that made a mistake was fired nobody would have a job.

This is the dumbest discussion ever. The dumbest thing we could ever do is to try and make an example out of GA and fire him. Somebody will snatch him up so fast it will be ridiculous. He is an upcoming HBC if there ever was one. Let's not forget that he didn't drink and drive, he didn't get in a fight, he didn't get caught cheating, he simply drank a few too many and pissed. If that is an offense worthy of termination, then we really need to get the stick out of our butt. Spurrier said the politically correct thing to say because he is not stupid. The same people who are calling for him to be fired are the ones who were crying a few months back that we "have to give GA Mangus more money before someone steals him away." One isolated incident does not mean the man should be mobbed with verbal abuse. We all do stupid crap. Get the freak over it all ready.headslap

Agree 100%. It shouldn't ever happen again, and all other coaches and players currently in the program should be put on notice (not that I really think one needs this type of notice), that if it happens again to ANYONE much more severe penalties will be levied. It happened, he made an appropriate statement, moving on to better more important things. I admit to being a very conservative person, but some folks moral high horse is simply amazing.

I totally agree. I've made more problems than I'd ever like to admit. I could sit here all day and tell you about them. You'd prolly get a lot of laughs and make a few horrifying faces. I'm not sitting here judging GA for making a mistake, and maybe I've exaggerated the severity of his transgression. I simply think that this may inhibit him to the point of ineffectdness on the recruiting trail. Could be totally wrong. If he were my friend or brother or something, I'd have no problem brushing it right off my shoulder. Hopefully his players, recruits and their families, fellow coaches and employers will feel the same way.

  • These guys are football coaches! they are not saints, ministers, or even politicians. They spend most of their time around men in pursuit of manly endeavors. We dont hire them for their manners. The guy got hammered and took a leak. Yes it was in a public place and it was a bad decision. I would be willing to bet that this will serve as a reminder to all of our coaches that they are famous wether they like it or not. I for one dont think it disqulifies him for anything.

I believe this occurred socializing after a coaches clinic(I could be wrong). A very close friend and retired football coach of 40 years+ in SC tells me that's what coaches generally do after clinics, drink.

I personally have urinated in public in a state of intoxication more than once. I'm not proud of it but I did it. I'm sure most real men have, in college or in the or in the service. Give the man a break!

Agree 100%... this will be a non-story by EOW.

Agreed, he will deal with it openly and make it a strength. His punishment, in addition to a class or a program, will be breaking down film, and bringing in recruits.

  • It is about credibility, , and a costly mistake.

We have all made mistakes, but really could this have came at a worse time?

He is a mentor for kids, and was watching after Garcia for alcohol related issues, what does he say to him now.

I have tried to look at this from every angle, but it is hard to get past the fact he urinated on main street, when he could of used it somewhere else.

How about the parents of the kids he is Recruiting, are they just gonna say no big deal we all let it hang out sometime or another, this is my concern.

I like Mangus but this was just very irresponsible, and I am afraid it will cost us a recruit or two, so yes to me it is a serious matter.

I hope he sits down with every recruits parents that he is Recruiting and apologizes for acting irresponsible in a public, and lets them know he will not do this again, or anything like it for that matter. This is the last thing I have to say on this topic, just gonna let it play out. JMHO
