Should Brandon Wilds get a look at full back?

  • With Marcus , Miles, and Carson returning and MIke Davis coming in , Wilds could really contribute at full back. Would add another weapon out o the backfield.

Do or do not, there is no try

  • He is a RB and proved that last year. Our season would have been a disaster last year if it wasn't for him. He wants to play RB more importantly. Has no desire to play FB.

After he puts on a lil more weight he will be a great short yardage back or change of pace guy. He has the potential to be a bruise that has great vision with some nice moves.

Reminds me of that RB from Oregon that punched the Boise State player that year. He plays for Tampa Bay now in the NFL.

If I was him I would request it. I also wonder about him using a red shirt possibly.

  • I have thought about that. I think that although it would get him on the field, I don't know if that would end up being a disservice to the young man. I think he is absolutely a tailback. He has skills.

I think Gilchrist is probably better suited for the fullback position.

Maybe use him like the Redskins used to use Chris Cooley? Something like that. I don't really know. I have a feeling Wilds is going to be buried on the depth chart this year, and the future. I am sure they will find ways to use him, if there is enough touches to go around.

I was thinking that with Miles, you have to give him touches, especially with his vast improvements in his strength, quicks, and speed.
Shon Carson is just too quick and fast to not get the ball to a few times a game.
Mike Davis is just nasty. He has the talent of elite SEC backs. And, he is already over 200 lbs.

he should be willing to do whatever is best for the team. he proved he was a good filler. his speed was not impressive and he looked scared at times and shy'd away from hits. if he wants to see the field this season, baring some freak injuries again, i would think fullback would be perfect for him until he can develop more. or use the redshirt. not saying he's a bad back at all but i just saw things in him last season that could prevent him from being able to compete for a spot after marcus leaves. i think at full back it would allow us to expand the use of the position. Triple option anyone? conner's prother ran it to perfection, I'm sure he knows a thin or 2 about it.

Didn't see this at all. Wilds is a running back and should stay there. His talents would be wasted at FB especially considering the limited amount of sets we run with a FB.

The rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Let me introduce you guys to Mr. Brandon Wilds....Based off his high school highlight film he breaks tackles like Jerome Bettis, has the quick moves mirroring Barry Sanders, and it looks like he runs a 4.14 40 easy.....He blocks better than most OL in the NFL and appears to have great hands to the likes of Alshon....I cant wait to see him at tailback..

    What do you guys think?

beetaserthis is a player who saved our season last year and was an 18 year old TRUE freshman with no experience. sure he had trouble with some blocking assignments and blitz pick-ups but had to turn into a starter in 4 days against tenn. in an away game. prior to this he was a 5th string tailback. latt., miles, carson, and baker were all hurt. i think he did an amazing job considering the situation he was thrown into. miles and carson and wilds will compete for playing time, along with davis, but wilds will be stronger, faster, and more experienced this year. he will be a BEASTER!!

  • Somebody should probably redshirt but I doubt any of them want to. There won't be enough carries for everybody to be happy.

So he was scared of contact yet would be a perfect fit at fullback?

Come on man! He rushed for 486 with a 4.5 yard per carry average against SEC teams as a FRESHMAN! Yet you used words like not impressive, scared, and shy'd in your description. Terrible, absolutely terrible assessment IMHO!

Do we still use a fullback? If so, not much.

    Hodad

  • i think he'll be competitive his entire career here and may have a good shot for the number 1 once marcus leaves. he played brilliantly last year, as a true freshmen coming into a really adverse situation.

  • lol at who ever said he shied away from contact but would be better suited for fullback. he is definitely a physical player.

I do think wilds would have a longer nfl future at fullback before running back.

very solid running back, but in my opinion we have seen his ceiling at that position, and if kenny is getting carries over him, and shon (who was ahead of him before injury) and latt are healthy, why not move him to a spot where we have no proven players?

Kid is obviously smart, I have no doubt he could slide back over to rb if injuries forced us too.

I envision him as a better brian maddox with the role he played his senior year.
