Shuffle in the secondary?

After South Carolina's worst defensive performance of the year against the pass, there may be some changes in the secondary against Arkansas this weekend.

  • I assume he didn't want to red shirt but Akeem should had taken a red shirt.

I don't know about the redshirt, but sometimes there are those who seem to be snake-bit with injuries, and Akeem seems to be in that category.

aw hell, he'll get picked up as a free agent in the draft and end up having a legit career in the league, and we will all go "WTF"

  • Tennessee picked on Legree all day on saturday, and his confidence is probably gone. They would throw short routes when he was playing off. Then, in the second half, they used those same short moves as the front half of double moves, and he got burnt by them. Let him regroup a little, and DJ can play any position in the secondary as well, or better than anyone.

I think he has already redshirted, the six year medical redshirt is not automatic.

  • <<"I think so but it is what it is," Quarles said. "I saw an offense of lineman coming but did not see number 44. I mean I was 30 yards away from the ball but it happened, its over now and we are focusing on Arkansas." >>

Wasn't number 44 the same guy that Miles jerked out after he got penalized for a cheap shot on a Bama player?

  • Swearinger at CB is not good for us, he's great at knocking the crap out of people in run-support, not trying to hang with receivers in coverage.

    That's Copeland , the 270 lb. fullback.

I don't like the move but Swearinger was a excellent CB his Freshman year. Just wonder about doing this so late in the season. Not really worried about Swearinger its the other guys moving around to compensate for his move.

Agreed. DJ will do well no matter where he is. He is not someone we should worry about. That dude is a competitor, and a warrior. He's been playing CB in the nickel package all year anyways, and doing it well.

  • Jay Spearman still in a yellow jersey at practice?

  • I'm really surprised at the timing of these moves. I could see going with this type of line-up against LSU and Florida in order to get more size on the field. With Arkansas being a passing team, I'd think we'd want more speed on the field, not less. seems backwards, no?

I don't think we are getting slower. DJ is at least as fast as Legree. Holloman runs well, and is faster than many give him credit for. The only issue is we might be losing a little speed with Quin Smith at Spur, but he is not slow, and is quick. I am all for getting Quin Smith on the field full time, though. He has made a ton of tackles when he was in the game this year. Antonio Allen is not a blazer, but he anticipated so well that he was at the ball no matter where it ended up. He had magical powers in that regard.

  • I think some of y'all are over-reacting. We have had 2 weeks and the coaches are just trying some different things out to try to improve our pass D against a pass-happy Arky team. Plus, it gives something else for Arky to consider when game planning against us. I am supremely confident that our coaches are better than Arky's and I believe we are very talented on D, at both the LB and DB areas. So, the coaches are tyring different personnel groupings in order to create some new schemes. Do not forget that our coaches have been studying film and have, perhaps, noticed some things that make them feel confident that some different schemes, formations and groupings might be more successful against Arky. Arky has not seen some of our new personnel groupings on the field so there is no film on that.

I personally would rather see of D coaching staff mix up somethings than try to defend Arky the same ole' way that we have done for the past 3 years which did not work at all.
