Smith hasn't ruled out MLB deal (w/Insider Notes)

Kwinton Smith has not ruled out the possibility of signing with the Texas Rangers.

  • Pro baseball needs to leave our kids alone.

I am glad I am not making that decision. It seems like signing would not be beneficial for him in either sport, but I am no expert. I want him to play both sports here, and was especially looking forward to him playing baseball.

  • Well, as long as he plans to play football, I guess I'm cool with it. Would rather him just be a full time football player, but it's his life.

  • How could he leave after bowl season till fall camp.and stay eligible. Hes gotta have a minimum number of credit hours to remain eligible I believe. I could see it working in fhe scenario he stays through spring though.

  • Not that this has been discussed, but if Smith signs, that opens up a scholly...that UF kid that got rejected would be able to swoop in and take that spot...not very likely but an idea.

  • I want him to play baseball, probably more than football.

    Is it 5:01 yet?

    I wish I hadn't read this thread.

We need outfielders next year. Baseball seems to be his love, so I want him on the baseball team.

Whittle, is this a kid we would have recruited hard if he had just been a baseball player? I think I know the answer.

If so, was Holbrook recruiting him hard, or did they think football was his thing?

No, I am almost positive they want him as an outfielder. I'm pretty sure center-field.

He likes baseball but loves football. He wants to be a professional football player at in the NFL. Tony or someone has stated this a couple times on this site. Also he has rejected every deal that would prohibit him from not being part o the football team.

He hasn't ruled out baseball though as he does have a high ceiling in baseball too (some say higher than in football as far as potential).

  • Don't see football staff loaning this kid out even for the summer. To play SEC football at the top level its 24/7 365. If Kwinton wants to play baseball and college football I have a feeling he will just be getting an education and playing scout team. Are there any college athletes playing BCS football and pro baseball in the summer right now?

I want him out on the football field. He is a 6'4 WR.. Our wide outs aren't all that tall so I would love a red zone threat for the next couple of years

  • He is talking about just playing summer ball with the Rangers. That is from the time school gets out in May until the end of July.

The Rangers are split on whether he would be a better bullpen pitcher or an outfielder. There is no love difference between the two sports. His true love is basketball, just to add some to the confusion. He was all-Region and all-state in basketball this year averaging a double-double.

How is that selfish? What I want has no bearing on what he will do.

  • SOS needs to let him know that he could be a top tier NFL qb. That lie seems to work with other baseball players who have no chance in #### of playing qb at the NFL level.

getting upset and asking for your own personal wishes rather than supporting his decision is selfish. He's obviously taking his time and talking things over with his family. Let him make his own decision and support that.

Not Whittle, but pretty sure he was just a football recruit. Came out of nowhere from a baseball standpoint.

You're right. I'm very, very upset. I have been blowing up his twitter telling him what to do, and not taking no for an answer. Really?

Of course I will support whatever he decides. As a fan, we all have our personal wishes.
