South Carolina Gamecocks..... the very best

  • name and logo! How sweet they are!

Is there a better pair out there, in any sport? I don't think so!
We are extremely fortunate to have these two. Hope they never change, even one iota.

Anyone have some other good ones, possibly great ones, and some that just plain reek. Are there name and logo "Hall of Fame, or Shame" candidates out there?

"Oregon Ducks", sucks! Just awful, and the uniforms with the feathers, or wings, or ?, are scary bad - all of them!

I couldn't imagine having to root for a team with an incredibly embarrassing name or logo, or uniform. That being said, how 'bout those lucky Maryland Terp fans.

Who the eff came up with those? Must have been on "ludes."

  • how about the TCU "horned frogs". Did you know that we are not the only NCAA school with the mascot of the "Gamecocks"? I forget where the school is but I think it's out west.

Never knew that FCS Alabama school, had such great taste. How about that.

Thanks to you, SSC, I know I am now, and will always be a huge fan of The Jacksonville State University GAMECOCKS! Especially love their name, but the logo isn't anywhere as good as ours!

Imitation is the highest form of flattery!

Actually, our official nickname is the "Fighting Gamecocks" and Jacksonville is the "Gamecocks." Just to be picky about it.

University of California Santa Cruz Banana Slug!

A bright yellow, slimy mother, and I kid you not!

    http://www.ucsc.edu/about/mascot.html

The Banana Slug has attracted a good deal of national attention over the years. In 2008, ESPN named it one of the 10 best college basketball mascots. Four years earlier, Reader's Digest named it the best. People magazine once dedicated a full-page spread to the Santa Cruz Banana Slug movement. The National Directory of College Athletics named it the best college mascot and Sports Illustrated magazine once named the Banana Slug the nation's best college nickname.

This excerpt from the article you reference somewhat diminishes the "I kid you not" factor. The students voted in favor of this mascot over the former sea lion mascot. in spite of it's "ugly and disgusting" sounding name it presents in reality as a rather harmless and innocuous gastropod - something which might appear in an episode of sponge bob square pants.

I would classify its fear factor slightly more intimidating than the Stanford Tree.

If it's all the same, SEC Rules, I still think there's far more wussification being a 280 lb interior lineman playing for the Blue Hens
