South Carolina vs Vandy-hotel suggestions

  • I've never been to Vandy before. A buddy of mine and I are going. Where is a good place to stay. Looking for something close to the stadium and/or downtown.

    TIA

  • Won't find one closer. You could watch the game from your room.

Holiday Inn or Marriott at the stadium. You tailgate in the parking lot which is equivalent to parking in front if the Cockabooses at W-B. You absolutely cannot get a better parking spot for the game. Plus, if you have to drop a deuce you can just walk up to your room.

Vandy and downtown/Broadway are very close - like a $5 cab ride or less if u don't have a driver. You're good staying in either place depending on what you're after. As someone said the Marriott actually backs up to end zone and people with rooms high up in the back can watch the game from their room.

Broadway has the honky tonks and country bars but that's about it. Lots of fun though. I imagine that is where most visiting fans usually go. Vandy area has the college bars and restaurants and is far more trendy. Demonbreun St has Tin Roof and Dan McGuiness - both great - Tin Roof a younger crowd like college and up to late 20s.

All of the above is close to each other....basically Broadway runs out from the river downtown and becomes 21st Ave and West End Ave, which is the college area. Very easy to get around to all and don't worry too much as long as u stay either downtown or west end/21st. If you want to walk to the game from the hotel them stay closer to the stadium. And great live music is everywhere - almost always for no cover charge.

  • Here are names of some of the more popular bars ... Will let u guys plot on google maps vs hotels and stadium to see what u like best...the "avenues" start at the river with 1st and then count up as u go away from the river

Broadway - just look up the street name and where it runs perpendicular to 2nd ave to 6th ave...that's where the bars are. Tons of them. Wild horse and some other places like Hooters, Coyote Ugly, and Dicks Last Resort are on 2nd ave up from broadway. Mostly honky tonks on Bway but a few others now like a dueling piano bar, Cadillac Ranch, and a couple clubs.

Whiskey Kitchen - 12th ave just off broadway, so halfway b/w Bway and Vandy...leads down into an area called the Gulch that has nice, newer, trendy places. Flying Saucer is also in this area

Losers, Winners, Red Door Saloon, Tavern, Chuys, Southstreet, Cabana, Corner Pub, Jackson's, etc, etc - all on 21st avenue in the Vandy area. More college bars or trendier places for 20-35 crowds.

Demonbreun St - close to the 21st avenue places...just a street with bars and Tin Roof may still be the best bar in Nashville for college to late 20s people. At least it has been for a long time.

Also for an experience u can try to find Patterson House...a speakeasy where every drink is $12. No sign so you have to ask or know where it is. A great place to start a night with a drink. The Bacon Old Fashioned (whiskey drink) is amazing.

We have a Tin Roof in Cola, but I've never been there. Didn't realize it is a chain.

Yep - the original was actually in Buckhead - was such a great place before Ray Lewis started stabbing folks. Opened the second one in Nashville maybe 10 years ago and it exploded. There is a second one in Franklin maybe 20mins south of Nashville but the original Nashville one on Demonbreun is the best.

It is on the other side of Broadway so it is a little ways away but a good place to stay and good area. If I remember correctly they have free shuttles to everywhere.

  • Thanks fellas. The Holiday Inn was $119 per night compared to $285 per night at the Marriott. Booking the room today and getting two tickets on the 40 yard line!

it looked nice. so did the holiday inn that gamecocktripp recommended. both are 4 star hotels i believe. renaissance did look nicer though. i figure for as trashed as we'll be when coming back to the hotel wednesday and thursday night, no need to spend a lot on a hotel room. as long as it's nice and the location is good.

Where have you guys booked rooms? I'm looking into reserving a room for the game this weekend and was curious about some hotels more in the broadway/ downtown area because we are staying through the weekend and want to be able to walk to more areas than just the game on thursday.

Also is anyone flying southwest that weekend?
