Probably meant to a BCS job.

Plenty have eventually become head coaches. He meant none have ever gone directly from the USC staff to a BCS head coaching job.

And yet some really selfish fans are mad that he left for USM or that he's not going to coach in the bowl game. Shallow bastages they are.

Perhaps he meant no assistant left his job here - voluntarily to become a Div 1 HC immediately?? But I think we can think of some who have, can't we? Maybe not?

I believe his point was that in the past, USC was a springboard to assistants to make lateral moves to better schools.
Now, being an assistant at Carolina puts you up for D1 coaching positions.
That said, I'm not sure if anyone ever has gone directly from an assistant position to a D1 HC position.
