Starting to think Lattimore might need to stay his SR year

  • I definitely think he could improve his stock by coming back. The 2nd year after a torn knee ligament is when you get back to normal. Oline will be better and we could win the natty with our schedule(although bama will be very good next year as well). That said, I dont know if he should come back given RB's shelf life in the NFL. When you get to the NFL with the new rookie wage scale, you're basically trying to play for that 2nd contract(especially for a RB). I dont think he's a 1st rounder right now though, more likely high 2nd, imo(not to say he couldnt sneak into the late 1st though). The NFL has devalued to RB position though and people forget that he wasn't as good last year before the injury as he was as a freshman, I think that gaining 12 lbs before last season was too much for him to carry, 220-225 is his best weight imo. Its a really tough call either way though and would respect his decision either way. He really can't make a wrong decison either way imo, if he stays get an insurance policy though.

  • Exactly. All teams know it is year 2 back to full strength from an ACL. They have all seem what he can do running, blocking and catching when 100%. This is why he will be the first running back taken this year. He will not and should not come back.

  • And if he stays and gets hurt again next year? Marcus Lattimore is my favorite player and I would love for him to stay. But as good a guy as he is, I would hate for him to stay and ruin his chance to get paid. I just hope he makes the right choice too, whatever it will be. He will be a Gamecock for life and will be the best representative this university has ever had.

I have always thought Latt would stick around four years since the day he put his foot on campus. He's the epitome of class and decorum and his education has obviously been important to him along with some team goals. Make no mistake...this is HIS team.

First round money is a ton but he and his family have higher goals...Barkely, Luck, etc have proved it can be worth the risk.

That's not selfish...that's just my opinion.

I agree 100%-I`m with you on this.

I'd also agree with this had he not blown out his knee last year. He cannot, and should not take that risk again if he is (and by all accounts will be) the first back off the board. A RB is "washed up" after 5 years in the league, while a QB can play well into their mid to late 30's, so the Barkley/Luck thing is not a good comparison.

  • Marcus will stay his sr year win lose or draw. Don't forget, coming off his crazy early campaign he told his mother that God told him to quit football and he almost did. 21 has two years counting this year

Yeah, but this man has goals that aren't nfl. He could care less about money

  • You are just not being truthful with yourself if you really think he doesn't care about money. Whatever his "plan" or "goals" are will be much easier to attain with all that cash in the bank. You guys act like he will be a complete failure at life if he doesn't finish his degree straight through. Many guys finish during the off season or post playing. It's not like he can't do both. This argument makes no logical sense. You have to strike while the iron is hot in this world.

Just to prove he's not too injury prone for an NFL team to pick in Round 1.

Agreed . Also our schedule sets up well next year .

  • He's not coming back. He's about to put up 1000yds the FIRST season after an ACL tear. I don't think he could improve his stock that much. Running backs rarely go in top ten. The only way he goes top ten would be if the team picking him has another pick in the first round. He's one of the best RB's in the country if not the best. If he does I'll be surprised. It's a difference between thinking you are one play away from not playing, and experiencing it. he'll get his degree later. But he should go, he's carried this team from a player and leadership role the past 3 years.

  • There's no way he should come back. It's way to much risk. What happens if he comes back and gets hurt....what then. We have good RB with more coming in. We'll fine at RB next year. I wish Marcus the best next year in the NFL.
