Strelow? Big XII?

  • Seems to be some chatter about Clemson and FSU to the Big XII, what's the latest and your take on it. If that happened would NC State and VT be off to the SEC.

  • Clemson and VT are the only ones who think they are going to the Big XII.

  • The "chatter" is all one-sided, as far as I can tell.
It's coming from Clemmers who realize that with the coming 4-team playoffs, their crummy ACC schedule will keep them shut out.

That's what I thought to but on TBB there is a thread and FSU, WVU and Baylor seem to think it goes down once the plus one happens. They already have OU as Clemsons common cross divisional and Oliver Luck as the likely Commish.

  • Makes no sense for either, IMO. My speculation is "chatter" only a derivative of fans/admins of those schools disenchanted with perceived favoritism toward the Tobacco Road schools within the ACC (or maybe even those schools leveraging a bit, I dunno). But I can't think those schools' presidents would reasonably view it as a wise $$$ move.

I thought the reasoning behind it was money? Seems like a big12 with UT, OU, FSU, CU, and OSU would demand a higher television payout than the ACC.

The big 12 is not the saviour... they are still Texas and the 9,10 or 11 dwarfs.... the business model of the BIG 12 is busted... I can't see Clemson or FSU bolting.

"realize that with the coming 4-team playoffs, their crummy ACC schedule will keep them shut out."

IT took them over 20 years with that "crummy ACC schedule" just to win a conf title. It doesn't matter if they keep the same BCS, go to a 4 team playoff or an 8 team playoff they aren't going to be relevant period. And if they bolt for a stronger conference they'll be less relevant.

    spurdog59

  • Why on earth would they go to a conference that is the least bit competitive? They have not dominated the ACC. They would have a loosing record in the Big XII every year...LOL

    boomer01

  • Recent events suggesting a 4-team playoff would also be disastrous for FSU if it stayed in the ACC. The current proposal would have the four best teams in the country going to a final-four format to determine the national championship. What this will inevitably lead to is a final-four dominated by the SEC, Big Ten, and to a lesser extent, the Big 12/Pac-12. These conferences are the most politically powerful in college football and will influence who gets which spots. Though many of us would like to jump to the SEC, there are several reasons why it probably will never happen. For one, there’s the much talked about “alliance” between UF, UGA, and South Carolina, where they would each vote against adding a university that resides in their home state.

  • Clemson is in a no win situation...they have stability in the ACC. However, the ACC has made it clear their priority is basketball. They can risk everything and move to Big 12...but who knows what Texas and OU will decide to do in 10 years. The SEC is not an option nor the Big 10.

They are at the mercy of event and players...far beyond their control. My hope is that they get desperate make a big move and have it blow up in their face. IMO they should be a mid major program....like ECU. I think that would be best for everyone....well except for taters.
