That was the weirdest home plate umpiring I have ever seen at this level. The guy was very sociable and I liked the way he spoke out, but what a strike zone! The calls were equal in one sense, but our pitching a lefty, we didn't get the range of calls their first two pitchers did. 22 straight put down, what a record!
"We played in a place called DeathValley, I looked up in the fourth quarter & the only ones still alive were the Gamecocks." Steve Spurrier
I'm glad to win no matter how it happens, and Roth had an excellent game.
Which game to start can be argued either way though.
We didn't begin our post-season with him.
I had this conversation with a friend this morning. My response was..... "This is the College World Series. There are only six teams left. If you think more a moment that the next team you play is not worthy of the very best pitcher you have, you will be on a bus home."
Michael Roth was our BEST chance at advancing, not our ONLY chance, but our best.
Joe Torre earned his way into the Hall of Fame with that logic; win the game that is in front of you. you can't worry about tomorrow's game until today's game is over. Great win.
We could have Cy Young pitching and it won't matter if we don't start hitting the ball. Our pitching staff has only given up 6 runs in 3 games. The way our guys have pitched, we will be in the game.
"People always ask me if I wish I were bigger. I tell them no. I always wanted to be a miniature badass." Dustin Pedroia
Hey guys, don't think that I'm questioning the decision to start Roth, I am merely stating that I hate to go against Arky without him. That's life though. We had to win against Kent St. or else Arky would be playing them instead...I understand that.
