Tailgating ?

  • Just wondering what the majority of Carolina fans do for tailgating. My family goes the easy route and buys bojangles chicken and potato chips with Cornhole on the side. Heavy liquor consumption involved. Who cooks and who else gives bojangles the false sense of notoriety they deserve? (Popeyes is better)

  • typically grill burgers, chicken...sometimes make a breakfast casarole (for an early game) or chili, then a nice spread of chips and snacks and usually a dessert...mix in beer or vodka, turn up the car stereo and get down

  • Yess for vodka... The day always begins with a stout bloody mary

  • We do it up...we don't buy anything pre-made. From marinated then grilled boston butt, steaks, shrimp kabobs, pancakes and eggs for early games, chicken bog, Frogmore Stew, to a 140 lb pig for last years Clemson game. We live to entertain and along with the food there is a mixed drink of the day (Gator Hater Punch or Neutered Bulldog Brew for example). We have some great folks that are near us in the lot every year and we all go in together sometimes. Add a TV and some music, good friends and a LOT of cold beer and that pretty much typifies a Football Saturday for me. I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • Rarely attend games anymore, but when I do, we typically do something along these lines:

    Zesto's fried chicken
    Home made potato salad
    Home made baked beans
    Cole slaw
    Rolls from Zesto's
    Iced tea (sweet and unsweetened)
    Bottled water
    Soft drinks
Finger sandwiches from Duke's in Greenville (egg salad, pimento cheese)
Desserts, such as home made pound cake or some other type of cake, cream cheese brownies, etc.
    Potato chips
Sometimes wine or champagne, but not often

  • not much anymore, just pick up food.

back in the day when we were just out of college and we all had paychecks for the first time lol...

    good ideas:

    oysters in fryer
    anything else in fryer

premarinate pre-cut/prepped chicken, steak, various peppers and veggies in different marinades overnight, bring a couple hundred kabob sticks, keep a charcoal grilling all tailgate and let people serve themselves - my favorite

premarinate wings same way - this requires someone who knows what they are doing cooking them in batches.

really a big hit was always that we'd provide the charcoal and grill, keep it burning all tailgate, bring your own cuts of meat.

    breakfast caseroles for early games

  • We have 4 or 5 spaces in a row. So, we have some that bring home-made stuff and others that bring Bojangles/Zestos/Chic-Fil-A trays. Lots of dips, grilled food, spreads, crackers, chips, etc. and plenty of beer, wine, and liquor.

Weather has a lot to do with our menus as well. Later in the season, we'll do less of a spread and do heavier foods like tenderloins, chilis, stuff with heavy sauces, etc.

  • For afternoon or night games, we like to do fried chicken at least once or twice a season when the weather is warm. (Publix and Zesto are our favorites).

For cold weather games, we sometimes do chili (keep it warm in a crockpot, powered by the same deep cycle battery that runs our TV). At the Clemson game last November, we did bratwurst on the grill and warm German potato salad in the crockpot.

Noon games, we'll do sausage and ham biscuits and grits, or sometimes a sausage and egg breakfast casserole.

Beer is our beverage of choice for warm weather afternoon/night games. For noon games, it's usually orange blossoms (gin, sweet vermouth orange juice). Cold weather games, we like hot tea spiked with dark rum.

Need your space number please because you're about to make a lot of new friends:). Your tailgate sounds epic.

  • Made some new tailgating friends a couple of years ago and have really enjoyed their company. Previous 5 years we were in a condo setting but I never really liked it. It ain't tailgating to me, I gotta get out and see old friends and make new ones. The group I am with now shares everything, food, booze, ice, etc. Each game the chef duties rotate, and everyone else brings the different sides. We go from steaks,BBQ,Frogmore stew, chicken and ribs, to jambalaya and chicken bog. Sides vary depending on what the main meal is going to be.We normally feed about 20 but sometimes it grows to twice that depending on family that might be in town.

  • We grill every game. No fried chicken, or take out. Occasionally someone will bring a nugget tray from Chick-fil-a, but they are normally guests of someone else.

Ha ha ha. I told my girlfriend when we met I need 13 or 14 Saturday's a year for Carolina Football and I am good with anything else on the other ones. That's because we like to do it right (IMHO). BLT Dip, homemade salsa, and even some baked goods every now and then. Attached see the pig from the Clemsux game, the tents and set-up, and even the chicken bog from the Navy game last year.
