The State's AP vote

  • MrBigAl said...

    Agree.

I'd vote us 6th behind Bama, LSU, OSU,Oregon and Arkansas.

I agree. Not suer how we didn't at least jump Stanford. We have the same record as them and played a much harder schedule. They essentially played three tough teams. They got the benefit of the doubt because of Luck.

Heard Kornblut talking that Josh Kendall from The State had The USC 11th in his AP vote. Pretty disgusting that the local guy has them out of the top ten when the rest of the country has us 9th.

they suck...I wish they would go broke and that Carolina would buy the property and turn it into a new stadium parking lot.

  • I am actually not that upset about it. Yes, would have liked the home town paper to give us a homer rating, But let's face it, its the state paper.

However, love the fact he ranked clemson 24, behind the power houses of Southern Mississippi, new SEC rival Missouri( which puts them behind 6 SEC teams. As well as TCU, and Northern Illinois, yes Northern Illinois. They were the highest ranked ACC team at 24.

so again, not that upset with the wisconsin and michigan state jump over us.

  • Another reason why anyone who spends a penny with McClatchy Papers, the company that owns The State is crazy.

Can you imagine in the identical situation if a writer for for the Gainesville Sun, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Birminghan News, or Greenville News has done the same for UF, UGA, Bama, or clemsux, respectively.

Their homes would be burnt to the ground. Yet, we've got posters on this site defending it.

You're probably correct. Writers elsewhere have been known to swallow their self-respect and vote the home team higher than they deserve in order to avoid bruising the fragile sensibilities of the local fans. It's the duty of every sportswriter.

Man, I would LOVE to see that happen. One can wish I guess?

  • Now is the winter of our discontent

I would be much more concerned about why/how clemson was picked #5 by one national poll.

He voted SC and Clem lower than avg and UGA well above. This is exactly why the AP is not used in the BCS formula.

The ap isn't used in the bcs formula because the ap refuses to participate.

The ap always has been the most Relevant poll.

It is only a matter of time as it is a dying industry, sadly. Some have commented about a "homer" rating and that is missing the point. A homer rating would have had us much better than what the rest of the country thinks. I would expect the hometown newspaper to have us at least as good as the consensus, but The State rag has always taken a negative approach to all things USC, which makes no sense from a marketing perspective. Cancelled my subscription years ago.

  • I'm not one to use a lot of downvotes/upvotes everyday but I've sure used a lot on this thread. First of all, we're all well aware that everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, those opinions are subject to inspection and ridicule. The fact is that Kendall has underrated us in the polls all year long relative to most other voters should make us a little pissed as USC fans. That may be his unbiased opinion, or not. My unbiased opinion is that he is purposely disrespecting our football program. I am entitled to that opinion as well.
