I recommend the G.A. Mangus Reality Tour.

  • Stayed at the Westin Downtown last Friday and Saturday night. Walking distance of everything. I would recommend the restaurant "Nosedive" for lunch or dinner (dinner is crowded) and it's right next to the Westin. Solby's for breakfast is good and of course if the Drive are in town the ballpark is beautiful.
    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Smoke on the Water is definitely worth eating at. Nose Dive is pretty good as well. Blue Ridge Brewery or Trappe Door are good places to get a beer. The food at Trappe Door is pretty good, too.

Make sure to see Falls Park and the bridge. If she likes baseball at all (or at least does not hate it), go see a Drive game. The field is a replica of Fenway, and it is one of the best minor league stadiums in the country. The Swamp Rabbit Trail is good if you want to get in a run/walk.

If you aren't on a budget, eat at American Grocery in the West End. Rick Erwin's is also a solid choice.

  • Downtown:
Soby's (fine dining): huge place, lots of choices
Giorgio's (Italian fine dining): small but authentic. Prolly seats 20-30 people tops. 1 man show. Giorgio is from Italy and it doesn't get any better if you like Italian.
Brown St. Cafe: live music... mostly jazz... Shane Pruitt is playing there Saturday, great blues player

Bars: Connolly's (Irish Pub), Blue Ridge (great microbrews)

    Lunch: Two Chefs

Two places I would consider driving to that aren't in downtown:
Pita House (great Middle Eastern food) - lunch
    Irashai (great sushi) - dinner

    Definitely visit the falls...

I interviewed there earlier this month. Tell her good luck and not to worry the questions aren't bad at all.

All the Table 301(Soby's, Nosedive, Lazy Goat)Restaurants are owned by a Tiger. Don't know if that makes a difference to the OP or not.

Personally, I'd much rather eat at Trappe Door than Nosedive. They are both Gastro Pubs, but atmosphere and crowd are about 180 degrees from each other and the food is much better at Trappe Door.

Given a choice between Soby's and Sassafras I'd choose Sassafras, again for the atmosphere and quality of food.

I had never eaten at papas until about 6 months ago and had always heard the hype but I came away really unimpressed. It may have had a lot to do with how much it had been pumped up by others over the years and my expectations were too high coming in. I didn't try the tacos but instead went with quesadillas. They were ok but nothing impressive. I've actually eaten at 2 or 3 mexican restaurants in the upstate that were head and shoulders better imo. One thing that was impressive there was the fresh made/table side guacamole.

Um yeah, I wouldn't go there if I were you. Plenty of nice bars downtown to enjoy.

Try the California style chicken or steak tacos .I cant get better tacos in Cali! Papas is surely not your average SC Mexican food . No ground beef here ...

Several of my friends didn't like it their first time. I think it's because they have their favorite meal and go there and it's different .

I always eat at the one in simpsonville but it's small. I have a few friends from Cali here we always go for our taco fix. I miss real Mexican food

I'm a big fan of el matador in Taylor's

What other do you suggest ? I love Mexican

Benk take your girl for a picnic at ceasers head. Downtown offers everything . Barleys taproom has a good slice . If she likes beer with her pizza .... RJ rockers peach on tap . Chicks love it ! It's also brewed in the upstate

Thomas Creek Brewery gives free tours and they are great people.

Have fun in the best city in the south

Don't worry even this close to Clemson we roll deep!

Papas and Beer is on Haywood Road. I suppose there could also be one on Woodruff Road (as there is everything else) but the only one I know of is on Haywood.
