is a bunch of garbage. There is never a guarantee that any hire is going to be a success. Marcum and Mcgee were a result of a national search. Hyman did some good things while here, ie the YES program, and capital improvements. He also was not a huge success in other areas ie NCAA compliance office, alienation of coaches esp Tanner and Spurrier IMO, and putting some personal goals before University goals again IMO. With Tanner we at least get an AD that is passionate about USC and his job whether it is coaching or administration. Remember Hyman still did not get the UNC game to Columbia and was totally hoodwinked by his alma mater. As with any hire only time will prove whether the hire was good or not. I for one am very comfortable with hiring Ray. My only concern is Ray allowing coaches to run their programs.
I detect a bit of bitterness in your post with regard to Hyman. You are mistaken if you think Hyman wasn't passionate about his job. The UNC game is on the schedule for next year by the way.
Hyman was terrific as an AD. He and Ray had some issues, which is not good. Still, he left this program with the best group of coaches it has ever had and the best facilities progress it has ever made.
Where did you get that he alienated SOS? I think SOS went out of his way on multiple
occasions to praise Hyman for getting him what he needed to help in recruiting.
McGee wasn horrific either. Could have done more with facilities and wasn't a great fundraiser, but he was the AD that found Tanner and got Spurrier. That's a lasting legacy.
I think the Tanner hire as AD is positive and he is in a position to do well and he seems to have the leadership skills to excel as well.
You don't have to do a national search, I agree. That said, see no reason to put Hyman down to make that point.
