Thomas talks official

Defensive end Jhaustin Thomas finally made it to Columbia for his official visit after canceling two weeks ago. Find out how it went, and his thoughts on Chris Moody.

That is Darius English...this guy will be bigger.

  • Is a prep guy? Or is he going to make it in?

Yes...Thomas will be really big. His upside is really unlimited imo. He has all the physical tools, but is very raw.

  • I have seen Thomas play basketball and even in limited time he will be an asset to the program.

As far as football goes, I am not sure I have seen any video but I have seen him play basketball and he is a big time athlete that is physical. He looks to have the frame to get to 260-265 with ease.

I really think that Thomas is the most underrated recruit of the class. If he could redshirt for a year and hang out with Connolly, I think this young man has the potential to be a big, big time defensive end for South Carolina down the line.

You also have to like the idea of continuing to bring in the size at end. English and Thomas give South Carolina two more defensive ends in the 6'6/6'7 range to go along with Clowney (6'6) and of course Taylor next year (6'7).

Good thoughts WG. Thomas has the potential to be a 6'7 275 pound DE and still be as athletic as he is now.

  • I've watched him play basketball twice this year and it's crazy how athletic and powerful he is. When he dunks and blocks shots it's like the whole gym shakes. If he goes to prep school and gets a "free redshirt" to put on weight and coached up, he'll be starting sooner than later. If he makes it in, he has potential to be huge after a year in weight room

I was about to post this same thing. From the bball to the most underrated, etc...the kid has great footwork, natural strength, broad shoulders, long arms, and quick get up off the floor. He's built a lot like Adonis Thomas of Memphis.

He has also NEVER focused on football. Get him in a year round football specific program and take out AAU and HS ball, he'll grow a good amt his first couple years. Hope he qualifies, we need his depth.

  • You guys do realize Devin is up to 260 and is likely to add another 10 lbs by next year. A 270 to 275 lb Devin Taylor is scary for the competion.

I hope our new guy can continue the great work Fitz was doing.

  • JT, enjoy your day in the limelight on 2/1, then get down to business and really focus in on that ACT. Prepare for it like you would prepare for Alabama coming to town. Get that score and then come on in and earn your spot on one of the best D's in the SEC.
