Thoughts on the 4 new commitments

  • First of all, FM is not going to be able to bring in highly rated guys on such short notice. There are only a handful remaining this late in the process.

That said, I like who he reeled in.

Chatkevicius was signed by KSU early, so obviously KM saw something in him. In one article, FM mentioned his physical nature. I look for him to improve sa lot after a couple of years.

Kacinas had decent offers and apparently is a good shooter.

Philip was known as a good ball handler and tough defender when he played in Brooklyn. In Charlotte, he also scored well. He has good size for a PG.

Hall was mentioned in one NYC paper as being the top senior in NYC. He is a definite slasher.

No one will mistake this class with UK's, but I believe it is a start in the right direction.

  • These 4 guys....They....they just play basketball. They put the ball in the net. It's important to score more than the other team. I....I mean....That's how you win. They step out and BOOM! There they are!

  • Good thoughts Plano. CFM never got the 5 star guys after Beasley and Walker left KSU. But he got good, tough players that could defend and shoot the basketball.

Chatkevicius is a legot wide body Aircraft Carrier at 7'0 245 with good post skills and 3 point range. He will be able to score on the block, draw fouls and make FT's. He will also be a pick and pop guy that can stretch the D to the 3 point line.

Kacinas is a 3/4 that can shoot the 3, slash to the hoop and handle the ball.

As you said, Hall was the best player in NYC. Had his academics been in order heading into his senior season, he would have likely signed with St. Johns or another Big East school like UConn, Louisville or Syracuse.

Phillip is the right size for a PG. Legit 6'2-6'3 and 195 pound. I love NYC kids, they are tough. they know how to play the game.

Tyrone Haughton is the forgotten man in the class. He is a legit 6'9 and a lot like Tre Harris coming out of HS. He had offers from Alabama, VT, and UConn. He was a nice get by Horn. Martin will make him a lot better.

I would not mind if we still could land Jeter or find a JC post player that can be an SEC impact player.

Regardless, I think CFM is well on his way with this initial class. I expect him to recruit even better in the fall and byond.

  • I've seen two reports here today, one saying that Chatkevicius is 7' and the other saying he is 6' 10"

    Anyone know which it is?

ESPN also has him at 7'0 245, so I really think he is that big.

PK update from prep coach says 7' 245. Also contains other good information.

  • If his coach says he is 7' then that is good enough for me. How awesome is it that he can shoot from 3 point land!

Need a 3 at the end of the game, not too many will be able to block that shot.

  • Considering that Coach Martin has been on the job for less than a month he's done a very good job getting these commitments. He's also generated hope and excitement regarding our basketball program, both of which were needed almost as much as quality players.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

  • I have only seen film on hall and chatty.

Hall can really play, I think. Would be the best big guard we've had in awhile, I think, talentwise.

Chatty looks like a long range plan in his nine minute clip. The reporting suggests his inside game is not too developed, that he isnt well conditioned, that he doesnt effort for rebounds, and that he likes to float looking for face up jumpers. Not a shot blocker. The nine minute clip kind of goes along with that. Martin recruited over him in the same class so that suggests that he was seen as a developmental guy. But he certainly seems to have great size and being a euro will probably pass it well and make some jumpers. , so I think he can be solid for us if we can get him up and down the court and improve his rebounding.

The other two seem to fill slots. I especially am glad we signed a pg. but I know little about them.
