Tiger, Sunday and Masters implications

  • I will be extremely interested to see how Tiger handles the final round at Bay Hill. Obviously, this is one of Tiger's favorite tracks, and he's one of the best ever(is) in closing a tournament.

We'll see just how much he's back with guys like G-Mac(who's had success against Tiger), a resurgent Els and a few others within range. It used to be a done deal at this stage, but as we know Tiger has had trouble winning since Skankgate. Hell, it's been over two and half years since he's won a PGA tour event(his limited field win is not one).

Sunday will tell us where he is mentally....the biggest question and what used to be his biggest advantage.

If he closes it out, watch out Augusta.

If he falters....huge set back IMO

I'm not a Tiger lover or hater, but I agree. I think he wins today...but one win doesn't he is back. it just means he had a good week. The days of dominating are over because he has lst the intimidation factor.

  • I am sure we will get to see every swing (including practice swings), every scowl and a few fist pumps. Just glad we will not hear every fart but if they could wire him we probably would.

This is true. I bet ratings will be up as well because Woods is still the biggest draw. Fans will tune in to see if he can hold it together. Haters will tune in to see if he falters.

You certainly have the right to pull for Tiger. I hope he plays well also, but I don't think he is a lock at the Maters if he wins, looses and plays well, or does not play well.

Thank God for the players from Europe and other places in the world. Tiger finally has some competition because the cash happy Americans have given Tiger no, I repeat no, competition for years. Phil is the only exception. The PGA Tour, with all the money the players make from not winning is killing the game. I do not want to see a bunch of Tom Kite's (players playing for top ten money) not really trying to win but playing safe for the big bucks.

The boys from overseas are not afraid of Tiger and will beat him on the big stages of Golf.

Give me the Big 3 plus Watson, Miller, Trevino, Irwin, Faldo, and Norman anytime...

I'll just work outside in my garden today and wait for the Masters where the field will have some competition in it. Not a bunch of Mickey Mouse want a bees.......

  • It's all about the putter today. He's been striking it well for weeks...he's also WAY better off the tee since working with Sean Foley. Worst thing he ever did was take that Scotty Cameron out of his bag...it's the mental aspect of putting and I think the old putter would help him. My 2 cents only of course. If he has even a remotely good day on the greens today he wins. Regardless if he wins watch out Augusta...remember he finished 4th last year having really not been playing and was hitting it poorly by his standards. He'll be a factor in 2 weeks regardless. JMO.

  • Im glad he is playing well because it is more interesting when he is in contention. However, i will not be pulling for him. Steroids and all.

  • I agree. If Tiger can pull this off today, I'm so pumped for the Masters. Golf is better with Tiger on top.

He hasn't had many good weeks over the past two years. I'm a fan, but I think he will do OK. The question for me is whether the competition steps it up, because they are no longer intimidated.

LOL, I appreciate that!! I'm not a lover of hater of Tiger. I do believe in second chances and feel Tiger is really trying to be a good Father.
But I also Tiger winning is great for the game of golf. Which is obvious from the ratings. He is fun to watch when playing well.
And personally, I think will make this younger generation even better!

  • I personally think Tiger is the same arrogant, smug a$$hole he always has been and always wil be. I hope he never wins another MAJOR, especially the Masters.

    good post

I like the Tom Kite reference.

Let me clarify, I dont believe in locks in anything(other than death and taxes) especially at a golf tourney(Tiger @ Augusta), but feel a win today would go a long way in restoring his belief, his confidence in knowing how to win again.

Agree the competition is stiffer lately and the boys no longer are intimidated by Tiger...doubt he ever regains that effect on the field.

Can't wait for the Masters as the buildup is palpable. Would like nothing better than McIlroy, Tiger, and Lefty battling for the jacket on the back nine Sunday!
