Tiger Woods haters get ITT...

I never said that...I just dont understand all these people wetting themselves because he won his first tournament in 3 years who think he will even come close to what he did 5-10 years ago. How many tournaments have been won since his last victory? How many different golfers have won? Bottom line is he may win another major or 2 but he will never be dominant again. The competition is 100 times stronger and noone is scared of him any more.

I agree that the competition is stronger, but today was a small example that the intimidation can still be there. There wasn't a soul that started the day on the first page of the leader board that shot under par. They were all aware of what was going on.

What would you consider his performance today?

I'll get in here. Lets not anoint him king of the world because he played great at the course he has dominated for many years. There is no doubt about it he dominates at Arnie's course regularly and it's never easy or a given that you will win on the PGA tour. That golf course "fits his eye" so to speak and he always plays well. As a tiger hater, I hope this puts enormous pressure on him and he plays like crap at Augusta. Don't know if that will happen, but that's what I'm pulling for. It is amazing to me though that he had no issues with the achilles that he had to pull out of a tournament (that he had no chance of winning) but today he was great! Just interesting. Oh well, here's to to "anybody but tiger."

  • I tend to think Tiger's game has been heading in the right direction since he got with Foley and that he'll be tough to beat at Augusta, especially if he hits it like he did this week. Rory vs. Tiger final group Sunday for a green jacket is my prediction.

Agree with you 100%. A win is a good win anyday on the PGA.
He was the best player this week and the comfort level of Arnie's tournament did not hurt.
How strong was the field? Did McElroy, Clarke, Westwood & Bradley play?
Time for someone else to be in the spotlight, tired of the suck-up media.

Let's hear you excuses for why the rest of the field crumbled at his feet. I thought the intimidation factor was gone? Hahaha this should be fun.

PGA Tour is in trouble again. He's back.

Not a Tiger hater, but he has a win in three years...he's a pro golfer and someone wins every week. He played well...but it's not a big deal. Guys you have never heard of like Mark Wilson have three wins in the last 18 months. Just enjoy the win no need to make yourself loo silly. jMHO.

Premature. Even if he starts winning majors again he will never get the endorsements he lost for cheating on the former nanny. All of his friends knew her but none of them were dumb enough to make "the help" their wife. Now she has way more money than he does and she never ever swung a club, at least at a golf ball. He is too dumb to ever win again and this is coming from a huge Tiger fan. His parents used to stay (rent) at my good friends house every year at the masters. He is a friendly guy and his mom is precious. His dad was pretty cool but Tiger isn't right bright. I thought he was but the Ellen thing showed me that he and his lawyers were very dumb. He should sell insurance after this. He only strikes fear in the announcers. Why are you down voting this? Ouch!

Way more money than he does?...I stopped reading after that...

  • Bay Hill is one of his favorite courses where he's had success in the past. Give him credit, he did play well and played much better than the others on the leader board today. What made him great was his consistency, where he was a real threat to win every time out. We won't know if he's there until he does it again. Also need to see how that knee holds up playing on a regular basis.

We have to be really careful. This is a Gamecock thread, so when referring to Tiger Woods, we must be more specific.

I don't like hearing things such as: "i am not a TIger hater", or "I am a big Tiger fan".

This is a final warning, next offense will result in a flame, or name calling.

Pleasework, you just said you were a huge tiger fan!

I don't ever want to hear those words come out of your keyboard mouth again! You have to be more specific, or else gtfo!

Whoa!!!! Slow your roll! I said Tiger fan, not tater fan! Oh my! No, I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Tiger and meeting his family while they were in Augusta for the masters so he became my favorite golfer. I had to spend 4 years in Augusta for professional school and he was the only pro golfer that I met! So I take things a little personally!! This is the first time I have ever been downvoted separately for the same post! I'm big time now!

Uhh, before you start talking about how poor off he is, you may want to check out exactly how much money he does have.

Don't be naive enough to think he won't have tons of endorsements again if he's winning. Also, don't be naive enough to think she really has more money than he does.

I'm going off of feelings, not facts. I don't have access to the real information, just rumors from some people who act like they should know. I would hope that he did not give her half of his assets, but some feel like he did.

    pleasework

  • If he gave her 1/2, he's already made milllions more in appearance fees, some endorsements, and in earnings.

    ospop4690

  • I believe most are either completely missing the point or choosing to grossly understate it. It's not about how many other guys have won since his last win, though there are certainly many. It's about an athlete (I know some don't want to call golfers that) over coming one of the biggest falls from grace in our life times.

He destroyed his personal life, lost potentially billions (over his life span) in endorsements, he lost his mental edge, he lost his game and in an effort to rebuild himself, privately, publicly, emotionally and mentally, he removed himself from the associations he had during what I'm certain he would call his darkest hours.

At this very same time, he was dealing with enough media scrutiny to make all New York and Boston pro teams combined, blush. Tiger earned it and Tiger dealt with it, not amongst a team, but himself.

He's dealt with the prevailing thought that he was finished. He couldbt make it back...No one could, right? His epitat had been chiseled. Here stands the once great Tiger, never to be so again. Pretty easy to say from afar, media and sports fan alike. Made even easier when it's apparent he couldbt hit the ball better than Ian Baker Finch. Well, everyone was right...for about 1.5 years. Then Tiger starts playing more, hitting better shots and suddenly he's popping up on the weekends. The tune changed. Well, Tiger is getting better BUT...it's the BUT that's so short sighted. Reporters and fans alike begin to give him underhanded credit. He's competing BUT, he'll never be Tiger of 5-10 years ago. Really? Is that the best people can come up with once their hope of him not ever winning again in turn began looking hopeless? How can a resurgence of arguably the greatest player of all time be diminished as a result of his own dominance during a players peak years of performance (age 23-34)? Was Jack Nicklaus of age 37+ the same Jack Nicklaus of the previous 10 years? Here is some help, once Nicklaus reached Tigers current age of 36, he won 4 majors. So I guess if Tiger does only come back at 25% of his former self, he's right on par (pun intended) with his biggest competition as the GOAT. No, Tiger won't be the Tiger of the past 5-10 years. Tiger wouldn't be the Tiger of the past 5-10 years without the hell he is putting behind him.

It's easy to beat a man when he's down. He had plenty of detractors before 2009, they just used his personal mistakes as ways to pile on, ways to judge, ways to prop themselves up because a once proud figure had fallen. Typical mob mentality. Root for a free fall so deep, so bad that it becomes almost unbelievable. It gives reporters more to write about, gives sports fans/detractors more to talk about, gives people more reasons to feel better about themselves. There is something in the human psyche that feeds off the unbelievable...Tigers success 5-15 years ago; a revolution in the game of golf. Tigers unfathomable destruction of his super hero status; a tidal wave of judgement, forums for self righteousness and moral high ground.

It's been programmed into society that Tiger should be outcasted for what he did. I choose not to condone what Tiger did but to also root for a resurgence, cheer for a comeback, hope that a better person is emerging and that he can be thankful that a valuable life lesson was handed to him.

I know that a lot of people 'don't like' tiger because of his behavior on the course. He's childish, he cusses, he fist pumps, etc...I bet there are many who don't like that aspect of him that can't wait for Frank Martin to be on the sidelines of the basketball court. Others, like many or most, used that dislike to wish for undo failure because of what he did off the course. Certainly anyone's right. Our society says that we should dislike him, but, I don't know him. Not many people do. So I give him the benefit of the doubt that he will grow from all this and I will continue to hope that the greatest I've ever seen play the game can give us a little bit more amazement on the course.

He was in contention at Abu Dhabi, in contention at Pebble Beach (both were final round struggles). He put himself in contention at the Honda with a huge final round (reversal of his previous two events) and then put it all together this weekend to win by the largest margin on tour since Rory 'went Tiger' on the rest of the US Open field close to a year ago. So, for those that say what's the big deal? The big deal is golf got its star back where it needs him yesterday. So, for those that say what did he do that Snedeker, Bill Haas, Webb Simpson, etc...haven't done? He won a very strong tournament by 5 strokes while media and sports fans have been trying to bury him. So, for those that say 'one tournament does not a comeback make', maybe so, but to not notice and to discount how quickly, warp speed like actually, he put his new swing to the test, dusted off the competitive cob webs and pressure of the moments to win an event going away, is burying your head in the sand still hoping its not happening. And, for those who say, as a criticism of his greatness, that he may win again but never be the Tiger of old...Chances are, you can't be more right BUT, you couldbt be more transparent in your dislike for someone you don't know, couldn't be more lacking in knowledge of the game, couldbt be more disconnected with what the definition of success in overcoming injury and personal hell means. The golf world won't get the Tiger of 5-15 years ago, golf fans will just have to settle for today's Tiger, and for me, the prospects of what that is are awfully exciting.

Hate to call out other fellow Gamecock fans, but the way rubber band was slobbering all over tiger and himself two weeks ago is so comical. As I said then, he was playing a golf course he absolutely loves and has had so much success that it wasn't hard to understand why. I know he's had lots of success at Augusta too, but the big difference there is that all the best players in the world are there it's not a lesser field. Doesn't matter though his sorry a** isn't going to win and it's great!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, the best golfer of all time is Jack Nicklaus period!
