Tommy Bowden on WCCP

  • Bowden was on Roy Philpott's show and admitted he was pulling for West Virginia in the Orange Bowl. Not sure why I found it so funny. Roy quickly moved away from that topic to expansion, etc. I figured Bowden would be "politically correct".

I guess he is still sore over his dismissal. Of course, he got paid well for beating us!

  • Dabo hasn't exactly been real respectful towards Bowden since he got fired. You'd think he'd at least show some respect to the man who hired him originally.

  • He also went to school/played football at WVU. Regardless, I'm sure he'd pull against the guy who took his job mid-season.

  • Put Spurrier in the same spot 5 years after he retires and USC is playing Florida. Tough call. A question I am sure he would not want to be asked.

He will pull for UF when he leaves here. As he should. But he'll probably always pull for us otherwise.

  • My Dad talked to Tommy at the airport in Nashville several months ago and Tommy told him that he even pulled for us against Clemmons now. My Dad said "hey I'm a Gamecock fan, but I wanted to say hello and Tommy said "hey, I am too now!" Said he was glad we were beating them and that he has some family in Florida that goes to church with some of Spurrier's family and that they had actually gotten to be pretty close and that he likes Spurrier.

I can't imagine Spurrier pulling against Florida. He seems like the kind of guy who would cheer for Florida, but at the same time be happy if South Carolina were to win.

    Who can blame him?

I never liked him when he was at Clemson, but it was mainly for the same reasons I never cared for Spurrier when he was at Florida: we couldn't beat his teams. Bowden seems like a good person - way too good for Clemson, as it turns out. There was a level of genuineness that just doesn't exist with Dabo, who is obviously a complete fraud.

  • I heard the interview too. I expected him to say that. It was his and his wife's school, he played there, and his dad coached there.

    Stouds1

  • Not sure how SOS would handle it. Im sure it would be similar to Bowden if he is forced to "resign", has the staff stab him in the back and the AD screws him for an assistant coach that apparently had all the answers the whole time.

I have a hard time believing he would ever pull for USC over Clempsux. From everything I've read about him and his hatred towards us, I can't see it. His comments about us while he was at Clemsux made me dislike the man very much. I'm not doubting your story; well, maybe I am :)

Yes, he has been quoted saying that once he retires, he will be a Gator again. But I'm sure he will support us, too, just as Lou Holtz has.

Since there will be a statue in front of Williams Brice of Steve Spurrier after he retires I certainly hope he will pull for us.

  • SOS will always be a Gator. He played there, won the heisman, and of course won tons of SEC championships and a natty as their coach. He still gives Duke some love when he can as well because they gave his first CFB HC position. When he's done here I'm sure he'll be in our corner except when we play UF and even then I don't think he'll be upset no matter who wins. I think he's pouring his all into making us his crowning project, by turning us into a perennial WINNER and contender. He's not going to suddenly turn his back on the program he's built unless something stupid happens from an admin side, but I cannot fathom that happening here...now.

Maybe you hadn't heard.....Clemson FIRED him. Would you also have a hard time believing that brad Scott hates us?

  • I've been critical of SOS and he still annoys me with the way he handles some things. But I know two things for sure:

1- we are much better off b/c of his tenure

2- he genuinely loves being the coach here and is proud of the University

He'll support USC long after he is gone IMHO.

Spurrier is not too crazy about the AD at FL. My guess is he doesn't want good things for him although I am sure he has a lot of friends he roots for at FL.

True Foley probably soured it a bit, but Foley won't be there forever, and I doubt SOS would pull against the team he gave blood and sweat for because of an issue with one admin type.

  • But Coach Spurrier surely has no qualms pulling for Coach Tanner and the Yardcocks over the diamond Gators.
