Tony or JC. RE: Jaylen Miller

  • You guys may have touched on it before and I just missed it since I haven't been on the board much recently but have our coaches mentioned much about going after Miller? I didn't realize it until the other day but LSU recently offered. I also know he's got a UF, GT, UNC, and WF offer. I'm pretty sure the only instate offers he has thus far are from Wofford and Furman. I know Tony touched on the subject of ironing some things out in Gaffney before going hard on Shaq but I was just curious on your guys thoughts of Miller.

Young man needs to commit immediately to LSU, don't even think twice.

I agree especially since the success that another SC native, Sam Montgomery, has had there. I'm assuming LSU sees the similarities in them. Sam was about an inch taller coming out of HS and about 15 pounds lighter and they both have pretty large wingspans.

First, I wish Jaylen the best.

I was surprised by the Montgomery comparison. Sam was listed at 6'4" out of high school and still is listed at that height by LSU. Rivals listed him at 230 in high school and LSU now lists him at 245. He also has great speed for a DE.

If Miller ends up being half the player Montgomery is, that would be a great accomplishment. Hope he does well.

Sam was between 6'2"-6'3" in HS and yeah he was about 230. Jaylen is between 6'1"-6'2" and usually plays the season at around 250 tops. He's very long and lean and that's the reason I don't think he could keep that much weight on during the course of a season even in a college weight program. You never can tell but I would be very surprised if he got up close to 300 like some have projected.

    Any idea where he's leaning?

No and from what I've heard I don't think he does either.

From JC and Paul's.comments, it sounds like he either needs to commit now or bank on a big senior year. Being a kid, my bets on leveraging a big year. I think that's what 90% of kids his age would think. And that's not a bad thing, wish we retained more of that as we get older.

The only thing Sam and Jaylen have in common is their home state. Sam was one of the top recruits in the country, and a "can't miss" prospect.

Jaylen is a good prospect, who 10 years ago, 5-10 years ago we would've had no choice but to be all over.

Sam and Jaylen were two totally different recruits. Everyone wanted Sam including us - he went to LSU cuz he considered them an "elite football" school and would have a shot at winning a title with them.

Also pretty sure in Sam's profile page it list him as 6'4" or so. He was a big time recruit that I hate we missed on.

I'm not talking about their ranking obviously, I'm talking about their body frame is pretty similar. Sam was a little longer and leaner but their frames are very similar. I'm not saying that Jaylen is a "can't miss prospect."
