Tori Gurley interview with the GB radio station

  • The majority of the balls thrown his way were screens. So youre correct but it's a little misleading.

They interviewed him because there is a strong possibilty he makes the actual roster next year, especially if Donald Driver retires. They really like him up there, mainly because he spurned multiple offers for other teams active rosters(including the Vikings in their division) so he could stay on the GB practice squad. Sounds like he really wants to play with Aaron Rodgers. Don't blame him, just wish things could have ended a little better for him here at USC. He's a heck of an athlete. Nice to see a ton of our guys getting good reps in the NFL

Would be ironic if the Packers draft Alshon to take over Driver's role.

As for Gurley's comments, sour grapes in my mind. The guy was raw and needed a lot of work. He was more of a basketball player in high school and prep school. He actually was a late addition to our recruiting class and it wasnt like he had many other options.

If he were that much of a can't miss talent out of college, he wouldve been drafted and wouldnt have needed a year on the practice squad. Demarius Thomas played in an option offense at GaTech but was a 1st rounder. Stephen Hill left GaTech early this year and is expected to be drafted. Point is, Gurley had opportunities to show the scouts what he had and it was still only enough to be a practice squad guy. Regardless, I hope he continues to develop and is on the active roster next year.

  • I didn't say he had any drops. He had very good hands. He just didn't get open as much as Alshon. He was never going to be elite, but he was a good receiver. I did think he was an elite blocker.

no he wouldn't have, hell alshon didn't even get the ball as much so why would tori?

  • He was a Gamecock and I wish him luck with Greenbay. Not the most glowing interview for us discussing things like locker room atmosphere which I don't care for and criticizing spurrier for his not creating more plays for the WRs. However if that makes him feel better to say that then so be it. Hope he does well and the sour grapes lessen with time.

Alshon hopefully won't be around to be taken by the Packers. I would love it if he was because I'm a big Packers fan but he should go before GB picks. Even if he's there I don't think the Packers would take him. Don't need a WR, they need OL and defense--specifically CB and another rush end. Melvin and Antonio Allen would be great fits in their defense.

After several months of review...I have concluded that you are the most negative/anti gamecock poster on this board. It's always subtle...quick snipes from the bushes, but you consistently take an anti gamecock slant on most everything. Dont know what your agenda is...dont care. Just making an observation.

My feelings exactly. I finally got to the point where there were about ten guys who were universally negative and I finally decided to hit the ignore button on them. Life is too short to deal with consistent negativity. I am sure that there may be things going on in their lives that has an impact on the way the act and I am sorry for that but not my problem. Having differences on opinions and being able to discuss them civilly is one thing but constant negativity especially in the light of current unprecedented success in football and baseball is just uncalled for. I just wish there was some way to also filter out their posts that are included when someone else posts a reply to their original post. Thank God for cursors.

I don't think Al is anti-Gamecock; he just wants everybody to know that he's the smartest guy in the room.

No, not really. I'm just not willing to suspend reality in order to prove what a big Gamecock fan I am.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

Correct. In order to have seen the ball more this year he would have to have been, within a few catches, our leading receiver in 2011.

Well if that is true then he has achieved the exact opposite.

Not only that, but when you call him on his made up nonsense, he runs away.

The offense had 61 less completions and the #2 receiver had 16 fewer receptions in 2011. Please explain how you reach the conclusion that TG would have gotten the ball more in 2011 had he stayed in school.

He was better than out #2 receiver(s) we had this year and would have caused D's to cover him and take help away from #1.

Interesting that you ignore how much the receptions went down for the top reciever. And also ignore mentioning anything about atempts. I guess our QB being unable to hit wide open recievers had no bearing on those stats at all.

He wasn't going to draw a double team. The coverage wouldn't have changed with him on the field this year.

  • I'm waiting for Gurley to achieve Sterling Sharpe status on the board, i.e. I saw an elderly woman approach him for an autograph for her grandson who was sick and he set her face on fire with his zippo and leftover bacon grease from his lunch.

  • I think what you have here is a situation unique to him. All he really said was the circumstances made it time for him to move on. He was ready to do whatever it took to improve get on the field etc. He showed it consistently ......he was a good receiver blocker etc. jeffrey was the prime target. He is 100 % accurate that Garcia was shaky and that made it difficult for Spurrier to run the offense. Then comes lattimore and it made it easier for spurrier to rely more on him. I think all he said was that the variables were not staking up in his favor. As it turned out he was exactly right. He knew whatever happened he was going to have to work his tail off so why not get on with it? To me he made a very smart gamble and it paid off. Hopefully he makes the team at green bay. Then it will be a genius move. Intelligent guy....... Of course it was a stepping stone.

Since receptions went down for our top receiver - to 49 to be exact - that makes it even more doubtful that he'd see the ball more. As I said in a post above he would just about have to have supplanted Alshon as the team's top receiver in order to see the ball more.

As for pass attempts, we attempted 72 fewer passes this year. I don't see how that helps you.

  • Here's what I know for sure about Tori Gurley.

    1) He was a talented WR, and a heck of a blocker on the perimeter and down field.

    2) He made some huge catches in big games for us, at a time when the QB play was good overall, and great here and there, as well as very sub-par at others.

    3) He's no Alshon, but to his credit, very few are.

    4) He let people get in his ear about being ready for the big time, when he clearly wasn't. If he was, he'd be higher than practice squad, although it's still a better position to be in and gives him a chance to play in the big time. Something very few people get a chance to do in the scope of things.

    5) He got one heckuva ovation when he came back to a game last season, and the crowd showed him all the love he could ever ask for.

    6) He should remember #1-5 when he's in front of a recorder or microphone from now on, because of #5 above all else, and Carolina is what got him the chance he has to really take advantage of the opportunity he has, for a really strong organization.
