Tori Gurley's decision

  • I've read his comments and wondered if anyone else had the same thoughts I did.... he left USC early for a shot to play in the NFL. That shot finaly came and he turned it down. Did that only seem odd to me? His desire to play in the NFL was strong enough to leave USC, but not enough to actually accept the opportunity. Let me also say - I don't think his return to USC would have improved his draft stock based on the way our passing game looked this year.

Also want to say Good luck to Tori and I hope this was a wise decision. You have to wonder if it may affect another team from possibly offering him a spot in the future?

  • He's in a good situation. Driver is done after this year and he is next in line with the best QB in football. Sure he could have gone and played 3 games for the Vikes but who knows how that would play out. Rodgers and McCarthy could get him to that 2nd contract and that's when most NFL guys make their money.

Think about it logically. Get a nice 3 game check from Minnesota playing with Christian Ponder with no guaranteed spot on their roster next season or stay with the Super Bowl bound Packers with Aaron Rodgers, albeit on the practice squad from $5700/week? With Jennings out and the possibility of them shutting down some WR's for the playoff run, Gurley will have a chance to play this season with a chance for a roster spot next season with a team that will be in championship contention for the next 3-5 years. In his own words "Nah, I'm good"

  • There has been a good bit of talk that he may get bumped up to Packer's active roster. I think it has a lot to do with that. Remember he's not guaranteed a spot on the Vikings roster next year, even if he plays the next three games. So he could potentially move over and be SOL anyways, his well regarded by a lot of packers fans and I think by those in the organization as well. He made a decision that he thought was best for him, just like he did with the decision to leave early. I think both are probably the right call.

  • If Jennings doesn't go down it gets more interesting to me. He did though and like the OP stated, Driver is at the end of the road. Get the ring...and take the shot being with a stud QB. If Sam Hurd can "cut it up" Tori can own it!

This. Practice squad players turn down contracts all the time, especially if they're in a good spot. I think he should've stated one more year at USC, but staying in GB is a rational decision.

  • Tori knows what he is doing. I think he made the right decision in staying at Green Bay
