Travis Haney article on the Cocks & I have question..

  • Does anyone know who the freshman was that Roth got into it with as referenced in the article? Just curious.

It looked for a time this season when the whole thing was going to go nuclear, when the Gamecocks started 1-5 in the SEC and the brash and sometimes-immature newcomers were frustrating the older guys. (Roth and one of the freshmen had to be separated when the youngster refused to take part in the dugout antics.)

This South Carolina team doesn't know when to quit College World Series - ESPN

After winning national championships the past two years, South Carolina's reasonable goal in 2012 was to reach Omaha. But the Gamecocks don't know how to quit so they have a shot a another title.

  • Beal. It was not a big deal. Stuff like that happens all the time. They yelled at each other.

Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.

  • It was Beal. I think it was a little more heated than what Steve referenced. Roth had him in a headlock at one point. Had to straighten the young man out it seemed.

  • If Beal is smart, he learned something and in a couple of years he will have a headlock on a freshman that needs to get with the program. This is a winning formula and each new class needs to buy in to what the coaches and verterns are selling.

  • If you google you can find an article written by Ron Morris which goes into a fair amount of detail. Based on that article, it seems like Beal didn't want to pariticpate in the dugout antics which Roth organizes -- Roth took excpetion, words were had, and it escalted to a moderate physical confrontation.

Everyone has said all the right things since that point. For what it's worth, I noticed Beal wasn't participating in the antics last night after being taken out of the game but it didn't seem to cause any issues. Must not be his style. As long as he is a good teammate and continues to perform on the mound then it really shouldn't be a big deal (as Whittle has said multiple times).

  • This is a great story. Gotta beat the new kids into shape. It's when the older kids take things for granted that this will start to fall apart. Roth, Marzilli, Price, Walker seem to have a sense of ownership and pride in what they started here and they'll be damned if someone thinks they're bigger than what's been started. Hopefully Beal is back in line

  • I think some of his stuff is over the top. Not every player is like Roth and that should be respected also. Beal was a highly drafted player. As long as he performs, does what he should do in the classroom and be a good team mate, then perhaps the antics of Roth should exempt him. I've never known a pitcher that didn't have a screw loose.
