Typical Clempson recruiting

  • I don't know if this is 100% true or not but this is what OL recruit Cory Helms from Alpharetta, GA told Kornblut:

    "Clemson loves me but they said they're only offering one offensive lineman."

    Did he mean "one offensive guard" or something like that? I don't know either, but I think it's funny that their supposed weak spot on the team appears to be getting even weaker in the future. I guess abo needs some more LB's and WR's.

  • It is obvious that Brad Scott is still in charge of their recruiting, and makes all the decisions in that regard.

    Helms probably meant one at his position. Even then, that is ridiculous, klimpson should sign 12-15 OL per class until they get it fixed. They already promised the 2014 QB that they would not sign any QB's as part of his commitment, the financial terms of his commitment have not been made public. ( JK, Al, before you get all worked up )

  • From what I've gathered, they do not feel they are in a position to land any quality Olineman during this cycle and are not going to just give away scholarships to big bodies. They think they will be able to land some difference makers next year. Again this is all information pieced together from hearing Bartow over the last month.

    So in code, what they are trying to say is that they aren't going to recruit kids they may have to develop! They want to land "big time" recruits that they don't think need to be coached up! Say what you want, but our coaches have done a much better job taking players that are good but need coaching and done wonders with them. We have gotten our share of superstars, gilmore, lattimore, clowney, etc. but again looking at guys like Antonio Allen, Patrick Demarco and others again our staff has done a heck of a job!

    Yep. This is a recipe for disaster.

    You can't just skip a year and hope for the best.

    Talented OL are out there to be had, you just have to be good enough to identify them, and then corch them.

    The hardest position to project is OL, so those studs you're waiting to get next year might not be worth a crap. Then we beat you by 5 touchdowns instead of 3. And WVU beats you by 120 instead of 70.

  • What Jefe is saying is what Bartow has said, they want to keep around 15 on scholarship. However Olineman are the hardest to evaluate we all know that and if you skip a cycle with only signing one I have to believe that somewhere down the road it's going to backfire. Also we know converting Dlineman is not a recipe for success.

    Clemson's problem is more about talent than numbers.

    Right off the bat, half of what you bring in isn't going to pan out. I can promise you out of those 13 sophomores, redshirt freshmen, and true freshmen they'll be lucky to get 7 contributors from that group. I'm not even saying starters, I'm saying contributors. Those are your guys on the 2 deep.

    A couple will have serious injuries, a couple will leave school/transfer for whatever reason, and a couple of more will just be misses in recruiting, which is the most likely scenario for several of the turds they have brought in over the past few years. History should tell any coach that but abo is smarter than the average coach.
