USC Buys ETV buildings

  • Looks like they will use for transition space, but would be interested what they will do with the space eventually....

USC purchases buildings, land from SC ETV - State & Regional - TheState.com

The University of South Carolina has purchased two buildings and more than six acres of land from from South Carolina ETV.

  • Tear it down, then tear down the entire east side of W-B and match it up exactly with the west side. The following off season, tear down the entire north endzone and rebuild it to bowl around the east and west sides completely. This is, of course, after taking down our new scoreboard and remounting it 25 feet higher and about 50 feet further back for the additional 15 rows of seats that have to go in.

  • The ETV buildings remind me of an occurrence several years ago. I was going to a Spring game and decided to park in front of the ETV building. There was nothing going on in the building before, during or after the Spring game but they had a Security Guard sitting out front whose sole job was to deny parking to all who attempted to park there at a facility funded by taxpayer dollars.
I sent an email to ETV reminding them of their incessant pleas for donations which I would not be making again. Nor will i ever.

  • Recking Ball materiral. It needs to go for trees to be planted and parking for donors. The building never should had been built beside the football stadium in the first place. Great news though.

Very interesting building. Sits on top of a natural spring and has a bunch of asbestos. Wonder if Spurs & Feathers will continue to operate out of there?

  • They are planning on moving UTS (Computer Services) into one of the ETV buildings.

This. I'm not a high-rolling donor, but I recognize that the folks shelling out the big bucks deserve some percs. Bulldoze the buildings, build something similar to what's going on at the Farmers Market, and let the folks that used to park right outside W-B park in there. Build them a little pavilion or something with bathrooms and a place for a band and be done with it.

  • Well crap. I have parked at the child care building for over 20 years. I knew this would eventually happen so I guess I will look to the new farmers market soon.

Yeah, the wrecking ball comments are made out of ignorance. You can't just destroy a building in this condition.

  • That west side is the only side that needs some improving. We upgraded the fairgrounds(north side), we upgraded the farmers market(east side), we already have the cockabooses and those tailgating roof condos(south). All we need is something awesome on the west side.

Exactly. The beautification needs to continue fully around the stadium. And that just an opinion from an old ignorant SOB..

Why would they move it so far from campus? UTS is in a great location at the moment.

Yes, obviously coordinated deconstruction would be the method that everyone would agree needs to take place. The wrecking ball and explosive demolition comments are made in excitement for the situation and jest. I don't think ignorance plays any part in the comments rather it is a sense of testosterone that makes us imply violent destruction rather than the true precision that will actually be required to bring it down over an extended period of time. The only ignorance on I see is assuming that those who express the desire to see it go away in a grand fashion also want to see the entire area contaminated and rendered toxic. I take it you never had roman candle wars as a kid or put M-80's in ant hills?

    USCManager

  • Correct me if I'm wrong....but this is not the newer ETV building. It's the 2 buildings and land right by the stadium.
So the buildings and land on the Stadium side of Key road...back to the cockabooses.
    Correct?

That's the issue. USC wants to use that "great location" for academics or housing.

I certainly never put M80s in ant hills. :)

Coordinated destruction of a building with that much asbestos is an expensive venture. I think it'd look great to put something else there also, but it's not going to be cheap or easy.

And Taylors, you are correct. It's not the building with the big glass front, it's the building that nestles up to the east side of the stadium.

    JamRockCock

  • I'm sure that in the long run the building will be demolished. but with the current level of renovation going on, this may have to wait a few years. It's a good investment for the future that can be of immediate help by moving some depts there while they are being renovated.

    Bookmaker03

  • I thought they wanted to use the space ffor medical staff and rehabilitation? I might be wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere.

That makes sense, there is certainly a dearth of classroom space.

I wish they would just get rid of the ETV buildings. We need more tailgating/parking space.
