USC Buys ETV buildings

  • TaylorsCock said...

Correct me if I'm wrong....but this is not the newer ETV building. It's the 2 buildings and land right by the stadium. So the buildings and land on the Stadium side of Key road...back to the cockabooses. Correct?

You are correct. This is the old State Newspaper building, 1950's Soviet School of Architecture style of design; hideous.

I share the sentiments above that hopefully one day the asbestos will be removed from the building so that it may be torn down.

I would like to see a small park .developed there with some sort of water feature due to the natural spring.

There does not need to be any parking there. That defeats the whole purpose of the upcoming stadium beatification efforts. The small park I envision would be an extension of these efforts

I know a USC alumn and Gamecock Club member from Atlanta that specializes in this. He needs to be contracted as soon as possible!

I thought they wanted to use the space ffor medical staff and rehabilitation? I might be wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere.

That is what I thought as well. Sports Medicine.

That west side is the only side that needs some improving. We upgraded the fairgrounds(north side), we upgraded the farmers market(east side), we already have the cockabooses and those tailgating roof condos(south). All we need is something awesome on the west side.

Ummmmm, if I'm standing on the fifty yard line and north is in front of me and south is behind me, which direction is to my right? ...and to my left?

The building will not be torn down. They are moving some administration departments into those buildings.

i take it you don't like our stadium. feel free to stay out of it.

Why do you have to be such a dick? I NEVER said I didn't like our stadium and I've probably been there a hell of a lot more than you over the past 30 years. You sir, can kiss my hairy bean bag.

If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that if it was built to exactly match the west side then it would generally look exactly like it does right now, correct? The original plan was to tear down the entire east side in 1982 when the east upper was added. This would only finish what wasn't done 30 years ago and get rid of the ancient east lower and north lower.

Tear it down, then tear down the entire east side of W-B and match it up exactly with the west side. The following off season, tear down the entire north endzone and rebuild it to bowl around the east and west sides completely. This is, of course, after taking down our new scoreboard and remounting it 25 feet higher and about 50 feet further back for the additional 15 rows of seats that have to go in.

could probably build a whole new stadium for the same price it would cost to do all that...LOL
