USC first to offer three-star Spur

South Carolina was the first school to offer this three-star hybrid player, who profiles as a Spur in the Gamecocks' defensive scheme.

  • Even though one site lists his 40 as 5 flat, I have total faith in our coaches and hope they seal the deal! Beat vandy, uga, lsu, etc...

  • Really? Not to knock the kid but an 84 rated prospect is number one on our board? Really?! I trust the staff but that is surprising.

Realize the coaches don't go by or care about the ratings. Guys we make commitable offers to this early ARE high on our board, and not plan B players. Bet many thought the same thing about English until his rating was changed.

  • Also, with the spur being a hybrid position, I bet the recruit-nicks are rating him as a 'too-slow safety' or a 'too-small LB'. Causing him to drop to an 84. When, in actuality, those traits make them perfect (termed loosely) for the Spur position.

Allen and Stewart were both mid 3 star kids coming in...

  • Excellent point Mr. Shaw!

No, way. Absolutely no way he runs a 5 flat. He is fast. He moves so well, I was surprised to see he was that big. About the comment of a three star being at the top of our board. Watch his tape, he will jump out at you, because you will swear you are watching high school film of Antonio Allen. The coaches do not know, nor do they really care how many stars their guys are rated, no Offense to 247, I think 247 would be concerned about the state of USC if they did pay any real attention to their rankings. They recruit with a system specific position in mind. Sorry if I sound like a broken record. It kind of sticks in my craw when ppl think just because he is a three star, we could do better. This guy looks to be a perfect spur.

BTW, as JC pointed out to me, a three star is projected to have all conference and NFL potential. The difference in three and four star can be as little as an inch in height, or 15 pounds, which can change drastically once they get in college. I will take a team full of three stars like Antonio Allen and DJ Swearinger all day.

  • Antonio Allen was a 3 star when we offered him

  • Antonion Allen ran in the 4.7's at the combine, and he made plays all over the field. The coaches know what they're doing.
