  • My wife and i adopted a child from the Salvation Army this year. My family has been doing this for the last several years. They actually go and help hand out the gifts to the parents each year. They do this in Marietta, GA. It is a very rewarding experience. The best part is that they dont let kids come so the kids think that Santa delivered them gifts. To see the faces of the parents, it makes you feel good. So, if you cant give, donating time to help out of the gifts at the Salvation Army is also very rewarding.

My church in GA also goes to the local nursing home and hands out gifts there as well. That experience is amazing. Most of the time, all the elderdy want is someone to talk to them. We hand out the gifts, and then we go caroling down the hallways. The smiles that you see on the faces is priceless.

  • great post. My wife and i just gave two small bikes(one girl and one boys) and several bags of food and treats to the local home for abused children and wives. We should never forget how blessed we are. A couple years back i went to Haiti to help build a church, if people seen the way those children live it sure would make an impression on their lives, just remember when we sit down to a fine dinner on Christmas with family some family would just like to have the left overs. May God bless all of you and Merry Christmas.

Forgive me if this is a little OT, but I would like to ask all TBS members who can afford to do so, to do one or both of these things during the holiday season:

    1. Donate canned and boxed goods to a local food pantry. Matters not which one, but almost every city has these. Whether you donate one can of beans or many dollars worth of goods, it will help someone in need.

    2. Donate a toy or an item of clothing to a local charity that collects these. Does not have to be anything particularly fancy, but children, in particular, will get some joy from your donation.

In addition to helping some needy folks, it will make you feel better to give.

Thanks for giving this request your consideration. Do not delay....do it soon if you plan to do it, so you do not forget as you get busier later in the month.

    Happy holidays to all.

  • Thanks for posting this Plano! Another good organization is World Vision. You can visit their web site for more info, but you can give chickens, goats, and all kinds of other things to help those who are just trying to survive. God bless and Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to each and every one on TBS.

PS - all donations are tax deductible, and this is the charity that M. Richt is selling his lake home to give the money from the sale to.

Great reminder Plano for all to please remember those in real need. There are just a few real needs in life, the others are just wants. I have: Shelter, a warm place to lay my head tonight Food, nourishment to get us through to another day Love, the love and friendship of our fellow man and family My needs have been met today by God's grace, but there are many whose needs haven't been met in awhile There have been so many great suggestions above me, I hope everyone takes that step and contributes to those less fortunate. Merry Christmas to all!

Great post Knot; and Plano is always right on the money ! Thanks for the thread buddy. The Salvation Army
gets a nod from me; always admired them. And the Marines Corps and their Toys for Tots. And we all see a
few folks in our blessed lives, who need whatever we can share; I give the homeless who are suffering a few
    bucks when I see them.

Again, thanks to your great post, Knot...heartfelt, and worthy of note. Merry Christmas Y'all !
