  • I bet she is going to pave it. The condo parking spaces just across the street go for 10k plus.

  • Yeah boy, they would be pretty popular Tailgating. No one will use that fence as a fore skin cleaner or anything.

  • See photo.
Based on the looks of this lady's house, she isn't desperate for money.

If I'm in her shoes, I definitely use the property as leverage and get tickets/parking for quite some time. Everyone is happy.

  • It's hilarious reading the posts on here people speculating about the piece of property when they don't have a clue. This property was part of the railroad tracks that Ed Robinson owned who built the original cockabooses. After he passed away his wife became owner. She is a Lance cracker heir and is loaded. Keeping the property has nothing to do about money. Not sure what the exact details are, but their was a falling out with past admin. people over them going about getting the property from her. Family still has a cockaboose there and are the one's who are part owners of the 3 of the 4 large train cars on the opposite side of key rd. Typical poor handling of things on the university's end, then the individual being stubborn and getting pissed off. Unfortunate situation that escalated because of ego's.

Some lady owns a section of the new farmers market tailgate area. She won't sell to USC. It now has a fence around it and they are digging up the grass for some reason. I walked by and looked at it before the scrimmage yesterday. It looks pretty ridic. Hope she ends up selling.

That is so stupid. What in the world is she gonna do with that tiny piece of property????

Okay so you say "past" administration....has the new administrative tried to make amends with whatever happened?

It wouldn't be the first time that a USC administration screwed things up. On the other hand, some rich folks have a pretty powerful sense of entitlement.

Have not asked, so don't know.

  • Can the city not condemn the property?

When Greenville built the Peace Center, my grandparents owned a warehouse a block away from it. The city wanted it to supposedly build a parking deck on it. They told my grandparents they could sell it for fair market value, which if you knew downtown Greenville at the time was rock bottom, or they would condemn it and take it from them. They had to sell it.

Here is a picture from last week

I clicked on the picture and if you click back once on the arrow, you can see an aerial view of the lot. Directly across Bluff road you can see the Cockaboose RR. Next, there seems to be what was once a planned continuation of the RR that curves from Ms. Gardner's lot and goes around the Armory to National Guard Armory Road. Big conjecture here on my part, but perhaps Carolina administrators put the quietous on a planned continuation of the RR after she bought the lot from Carolina, thereby leaving her out in the cold. Since I don't know what she was offered nor the circumstances I think I'll keep out of it. But maybe Kathleen has a plan! Maybe she herself will plant two giant oaks and start a tradition of everybody tossing rolls of toilet paper on them after important wins! Yeah, that's it! She's planning to set up a kiosk and sell toilet paper. Sounds like a money maker to me.

I think her plan it to park 3 full Honey Wagons on the lot for football weekends until Carolina pays her a kings ransom for the land.

  • It's sad that this can't be rectified. We have a brand new beautiful tailgate area and this parcel of land stuck in the middle of it with a black fence around it. What an eyesore that thing is going to be. If this lady is a true gamecock fan you would think that she could come to an agreement. Very sad!

Plenty of room to park a few cars. Put up a tailgate canopy, BBQ and porta john.

I expect we'll see a letter to the editor of The State over her name, claiming to be treated unfairly by the university.

Even worse, we will see an editorial piece by our old friend Ron Morris claiming that USC has bullied a little old lady in Spartanburg who is homebound and only eats when Meals on Wheels comes around.

Sure but is she going to do that?? I mean sounds like she's owned it for quite some time; what would make her do that now?

I don't know. I said that kinda tongue in cheek. They sell parking spaces just across the road for 10K and more. The tax parcel listed the property value at $2500. I don't know what she was offered for the property but it is worth a lot more than that. Lots of people would pay big money for a space that close to the stadium.

    Garnet101

  • I hope USC is going to do something else to piss her off like putting in some kind of bushes. If they let her have 3 or 4 prime parking spots right there she will never sell. Everyone that parks over there needs to make sure they piss through that fence every chance they get.
