I have emailed back and forth with Nathan Guthrie and Parker Duffie of the tailgate guys with my legitimate interest in renting a couple of their tents for games to host business clients in the last 24 hours. In fact I fully intend on using their services at least once this year because it allows me to avoid the hassle of setting up and breaking down a tailgate for 20-30 people.
During these conversations not once have they asked me about my affiliation with the Gamecock Club or the University of South Carolina. They have told me if I wanted to I could rent every single tent they have in the "festival lawn" area of the Garnet Way. I asked point blank if there were any restrictions and the response was that as long as I kept the crowd controlled near my tent then I could have as many people as I wanted at my tailgate with no other restrictions. There is absolutely nothing precluding the Georgia Bulldog Club or some other entity from renting every single tent and setting up along the garnet way and taking over that section of our premium parking.
I love the concept and think the guys have a very marketable product. Having said that for the University not to do their due diligence on this is unconscionable and this thing will go south. How hard is it to imagine the link for this parking to go up on DawgVent, Tigernet or some other rivals board? As a visitor you can get premium parking, a fully set up tailgate and all you have to do is show up? Sounds like a great deal. They should have put these guys somewhere else because there are just to many chances for this to go horribly wrong.
