WSJ poll: SC is 52% Gamecock and only 25% Tiger

Interesting findings. I had once seen a poll by the state that said 60-40 Gamecocks but the 25% number is pretty shocking.

  • I'd wonder where they got that data. Funny a lot of these surveys they talk to a thousand people and then assume that applies to the full population.

If it's done correctly, random sample polling is very accurate.

  • The print version of the WSJ explains more about the polling. The results are based on 2 years of polling.
It appears a good bit of work went into it.
Very interesting that among the 18-29 years of age range that the results were even heavier in USC's
    favor 56%-18%.

That's because those younger people (1) ignore that tainted NC trophy for the taters in the very distant past, (2) respect the SEC much more than the EZZ including the much higher TV coverage of the SEC, and (3) realize that The USC is on the upswing with younger people due to our more recent significant success while the taters "keep pulling a Clemsux." The USC has also made signficant progress in the last 2 decades in facilities (academic, athletic and the Vista area), athletics (success like football, Baseball and even equestrian teams which draw women), and academics such as the IMBA & Honors College and other excellent and improving programs (nursing, business school, med school, engineering, etc.). Influential and respected people like Darla Moore have also raised our profile in the region and nationally.

  • A large part of it has to do with the fact that we take care of in state kids coming out of high school compared to clemson. We are also a larger school due to that.

It's called polling, seemed like it worked just fine in the presidential election.

  • Also, you can't underestimate winning back to back national championships...even if they were baseball. That exposure increased the number of gamecock fans significantly...even in our own state.

  • Might explain the instate recruiting success we've had in recent years. Among other things. Living in Greenville, you tend to overestimate Clemson's popularity. This poll is encouraging and very revealing. Don't expect the Gville News to make any mention of it. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

  • It was probably an Internet poll. We all know Clemson fan probably have trouble with computers.

    Bababooey!

  • It was a telephone poll, but the taters thought it was a telephone pole and tried to put a tree stand on it instead of answering the question.

    CockyMike1

  • 1) higher percentage of clemson fans dont have telephones

    2) higher percentage of clemson fans dont know what the Wall St Journal is.

    3) poller from WSJ could not understand the dialect of a large percentage of Clemson fans and marked them down as unresponsive.

This. Clemson has been catering to the Northern Students for some time now and ignored their very own in-state Students.

  • Clemson, IMO makes their fan base look bigger by wearing Clemson hats, shirts etc. and putting decals and plates on their vehicles at much higher rates than South Carolina fans do. For instance if I go to the Renaisance fair in Charlotte I not likely to put on gamecock gear but probably almost all Clemson fans will.

  • 25% too much still, if you ask me.

Plus that hideous orange is so easy to spot that it might seem over-represented.

Hunters wear it for a reason.
